Those looking for a movie totally not full of violence this is it. Though there is lots of drama and enough roughness to suit most anyone. Is it a great movie no. Just a solid one some may be looking for. It is PG13 but in this Century there are not many below an R. I found it again by luck.

One of the classic movies of it's era. First 6 actors down the list have either won or nominated for an Oscar. 3 have won. All main actors have passed on save one. This flick is one hard find. Some of the other movies these actors have played in below. The story about a man who comes to a town. Meets up with a well to do family. Is known by his fathers crimes in which they have a name for. Family master (father) has a son though he lacks the guile to be the man of the family. Also a daughter who just might be looking for a man. Though at first the visitor would be the last she would think of since he is a braggart and loose lipped. Her father though falls for him as having fortitude to run the company business and marry his daughter. He has brass and what one likes to see taking over and being part of the family. These actors are the best of these times. One also being a director for decades. I have shown movies with all these top actors many times before. Though the first for this one. A clue for ones who might be able to figure out. Use this movie and word to find out one of the character names-Ben-Hur Fast. Another clue for another actor. War Of The Worlds and NOT the movie.

MQ @ Which popular 1960s movie did these famous lines come from?

In honor of the passing of Raquel Welch. I am posting 2 movies for Saturday. She actually grew up about 10 miles from me. Attending La Jolla High School. I was much younger and a child. A few years later she became well known mostly for her looks and also beauty pagents and then into movies such as below. If anyone wishes to read her full bio it is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raquel_Welch

My mom told me once about listening to War Of The Worlds and people in the neighborhood running out of their houses and generally going crazy. I thought this was all pretty cool (we're talking late sixties at the time)...and then I found out years later that it premiered Halloween night 1938. My mom would have been just a few days shy of eight months old...
texasluva Moverfan 9 months ago
Yes that was a broadcast from 1938 and people that came in late to it went nuts thinking Martians have invaded us. Orson Welles did the Halloween episode via radio. He was so dramatic and sounding serious and scared. In the 60's we mostly only got news via the TV or newspaper. Who knows how old those stories were at times. Now you get the up to the second missiles hitting buildings and people at war anywhere in the world. It also seems that the listening devices are really so state of the art you can't implode at 12 miles down in the ocean without someone hearing it. It actually happened during that submergible that went down to look at the Titanic. Satellites can pick up launches anywhere in the world in micro seconds. Videos from Mars as the rovers putt around. JWST finds galaxies not long after The Big Bang (If that's what really happened). Light coming from billions of years ago right into JWST mirrors for us to research. Google does a time line on everyone from where they shopped or drove to the past year via a map. Using your cell. That's one of the evidences they will use against the Idaho murderer. You and everyone else are being watched one way or another.

Hmmm.....this looks interesting. Sad about your comment that most movies are rated R these days. One of the many reasons I never go to the movies anymore.
DeborahRoberts 13 months ago
I usually enjoy MeTV's quizzes, but this was excruciating. And while, I've previously thought people were a bit hard on the typos and small factual errors, this was just SLOPPINESS at its worst. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye" has never been adapted as a film. Never. You can't copyright titles, so I could slap "Gone With the Wind" on a dog-food commercial, but that wouldn't make it an adaptation of Mitchell's novel. A 10-second Google would have told you Salinger's novel has never been adapted as a film. Really, you couldn't Google before writing one of these articles? The rest is just mush. Salinger's masterwork is a rare bestseller that hasn't been adapted to the screen. So what was the point? Seeing how many times we could click "both"? Catching us on some cuteness with "it's been adapted for TV but not film tee-hee-heee"? 🙄 Try harder next time.
kkvegas DeborahRoberts 13 months ago
Thanks for your excellent comment. I only "missed" two questions, and this was one of them. Before I read your comment, I thought, I didn't know there was a movie adaptation of that book. And it turns out I was right.
LalaLucy 13 months ago
9/10, though I do not feel that first question is truly correct. There may be a short video of nonsense someone titled The Catcher in the Rye out there, but that was not really what I would call a movie version of the book. It's a great book that I wish we had a real movie version of, but I respect J.D. Salinger didn't want that.
LalaLucy LalaLucy 13 months ago
I should have sifted through comments more. It looks like several noted this mistake. I had not really thought through the issues with the Waiting for Gofot question, but people have a point there, too. It's called research. People running sites like this ought to do some. 🙄

7/10 some titles I never heard of. Too busy reading Comic books back then, I guess!!

Someone made a movie of “Catcher in the Rye”?
cperrynaples elizabethfh 13 months ago
no they didn't!
Only if this ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1206286/ ) qualifies.
Looks more like weird-to-be-weird pretending to be art.
A daily occurrence.

6 of 10. Not so good. If I read the book, I never wasted time on the movie or vice versa. I just never really paid any attention to the other format, so I wasn't too sure on some of the questions.
Catman 13 months ago
8/10 because I didn't know they made a film of Catcher in the Rye and Waiting for Godot. WFG was a play, and although it was published in book form in 1952, only a few thousand copies were printed. The status of WFG as a 1950s best seller is doubtful.

I see (Wikipedia) that Robin Williams was Estragon in WFG, but I'm not sure that filming a stage performance counts as "making a movie" in the sense of a film adaptation. But the bottom line of all this is that two of the questions in the quiz show a marked lack of research.
cperrynaples Catman 13 months ago
That was PBS, and he also did Seize The Day, ironically one of his lines in Dead Poets Society!

EXACTLY!!! I would have had 10/10 instead of 8/10 if they had been correctly identified as books only!
