They say that the best things take time, and usually, they're right. But what they don't tell you is that it also takes passion and dedication spent during that time to make something truly worthwhile.

It should be a crime that animated shows are taken less seriously than their live-action counterparts. Many shows are considered to only have a children's audience, simply because they're animated.

However, a show like The Flintstones, which was modeled after the live-action series, The Honeymooners, managed to appeal to audiences both young and old. It's important to note, though, that The Flintstones had a cast full of voice acting legends, like Bea Benaderet and Alan Reed. Moreover, when the show was still in development, series creators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera worked tirelessly around the clock in an effort to ensure that the series would be the best it could possibly be.

In an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer, Joe Barbera revealed that in order to find the perfect cast, there was quite a lengthy audition process for The Flintstones.

"To get the right voices for The Flintstones, we interviewed people for a solid year," he said. "We auditioned twelve teams of voices daily, explaining the characters and having everybody read the same lines for a tape recorder."

While that might seem excessive to some, it was a necessity for Hanna-Barbera.

"We cast the characters as if we were interviewing real people," Barbera said. "We look at all sorts of drawings before approving characters, wives, kids, dogs."

Luckily, all that effort definitely made a difference, and The Flintstones has become one of the most well-loved shows of its time.
