Did these things happen in hit TV show pilots or did we just make them up?

Root out the truth about the start of classic TV shows.

The start of hit TV shows for many viewers marks the beginning of a beautiful friendship between you and the most cherished classic TV characters. You watched the casts of hit shows like The Andy Griffith Show, M*A*S*H and Bonanza for seasons, and now that they're iconic, it's true fans who truly remember how each of these iconic shows really got their start.

Or is it? That's what today's quiz seeks to test: How well do you actually remember the pilot of episodes of iconic TV shows?

Here, we've mixed up some true first episode synopses with some definitely false episode capsules. Sometimes we've just changed one glaring detail, and other times we've fabricated the episode summary entirely.  See if you can root out the truth about all these hit TV shows. Good luck!
  1. In the first episode of ALF, ALF crash-lands his ship right on the Tanners’ garage.
  2. In the first episode of The Brady Bunch, Mike and Carol divorce their former spouses.
  3. In the first episode of Gilligan's Island, the S.S. Minnow shipwrecks 10 castaways on an uncharted island.
  4. In the first episode of The Andy Griffith Show, Opie plays pranks to scare the Taylors’ former housekeeper away.
  5. In the first episode of Cheers, Diane gets dumped.
  6. In the first episode of Lost in Space, stowaway Dr. Smith’s extra weight throws the Robinsons’ ship off course in a meteor shower.
  7. In the first episode of M*A*S*H, Korean houseboy Ho-Jon gets accepted to Frank Burns’ alma mater.
  8. In the first episode of Wonder Woman, war hero Robert Hogan is downed over the Bermuda Triangle, and crashes on Wonder Woman’s native island.
  9. In the first episode of Bonanza, the Cartwrights must protect their land from ruthless mine owners who want the Ponderosa for timber.
  10. In the first episode of The Twilight Zone, a man who can’t remember his own name finds himself in a town with no people.

Did these things happen in hit TV show pilots or did we just make them up?

Danger! Danger! Will Robinson. I read somewhere that the Dr. Smith character was not in the pilot for Lost in Space. However that episode, which was filmed in black and white, may never have been aired.

Not only was Dr. Smith not in the first pilot but the robot was also missing. This version is available for purchase on E Bay.

MASH & Bonanza threw me...

I was thinking it was Burns' 'alma mater' as a commentary about Frank's attitude towards inclusion.
- the Primary Plot being Hawkeye & Trapper doing the fundraiser, I missed the detail about what school he got into... should have known it'd be a place with Positive connections

w/ Bonanza I was thinking the "Pilot" would/could/should have some sort of 'Catalyst' event
- almost* every one else on the list has such an event (the "False" questions coming down to 'details') ala Alf Arrives, the Bradys take it to the next level, the Minnow sets sail, the housekeeper leaves, Diane arrives, the Robinsons Launch, HoJon leaves, the Island is found
* Twilight Zone being an anthology is the exception (I only knew the plot because I saw/watched the episode listed on a Free Roku app some months back expressly ID'd as the TZ Pilot

I got # 5 wrong, but that is only because I never watched "Cheers" (and I never will either).
