A modern-day horror legend is bringing a new adaptation of The Mist to theaters
This will mark the director's fifth time working with Stephen King.
Mike Flanagan is considered one of the modern-day masters of horror. If you aren't familiar with him, you've missed some great spooky treats. The creator is known for his surreal editing, reality-bending narratives, and a reliable stable of actors who show up in multiple projects, such as Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, and Mark Hamill.
Movies that Flanagan has worked on before include Oculus, Before I Wake, Hus,h and Ouija: Origin of Evil. He is also best-known to many for his collection of miniseries on Netflix which include The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Now it has been announced that Flanagan will be creating a film adaptation of Stephen King's novella The Mist. The novella has already been adapted twice: once by Frank Darabont in 2007 with a famously changed ending and once in 2017 with a miniseries on Spike.
This is not the first time Flanagan has taken on the world of Stephen King. Previously, he wrote and directed adaptations of Gerald's Game (2017), Doctor Sleep (2019), and The Life of Chuck (2024). He also wrote and directed the upcoming miniseries Carrie.
We don't know when Flanagan's take on The Mist will hit theaters, nor any details about casting or plot. However, we can expect to see The Exorcist on the big screen in 2027.
