Though the series focused on women of a certain age, viewers from every generation flocked to The Golden Girls. With a focus on female friendship and a comedic timing that kept audiences laughing, the sitcom was a series that kept all fans tuning in.
Of course, the spontaneity worked to the show’s advantage. Series star Betty White, best known for her role as Rose Nylund, gave audiences a peek behind the curtain at the daily lives of herself and co-stars Estelle Getty, Bea Arthur, and Rue McClanahan.
During an interview with the Jackson County Banner, White revealed that the cast was just as surprised by plot changes as the audience.

“But I do know that with our wonderful writers, we’ll continue to have a show the viewers will enjoy,” said the actor.
White also said she appreciated her younger fans showing their appreciation for the sitcom. “Believe it or not, we get mail from youngsters as well as older people,” said the actor. “Children feel especially drawn to Rose. I suppose it’s her childlike naivete that they appreciate. I just love it when I’m in the market, and a toddler will come up to me and say, ‘Wose, Wose, I wuv you.’”
