Dan Haggerty fought for better scripts on The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams
"I want to see the show expand," said the actor.

Although The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams only lasted for roughly two seasons on television, the series had no shortage of fervent and appreciative viewers. However, the short shelf life of the series also didn't mean that the series was not rife with tension behind the scenes.
It seemed that as the show progressed, series star Dan Haggerty took more of an issue with some of the writing that made it into episodes.
A stunt man turned animal trainer, Haggerty was perfect for the role of Grizzly Adams, but he wasn't shy about sharing his true opinions regarding the series during an interview.
"I love Grizzly Adams and I don't want to change it," said Haggerty in an interview with the Des Moines Tribune. "The scripts get comic book-like...I want to see the show expand."
Haggerty had recommendations that he felt "would open up the show," allowing Adams to live a richer inner life. For example, Haggerty believed that, while the animal aspect of the series was important, it was also crucial for Adams to develop interpersonal relationships with some real people.
"Here you have a perfectly normal 35-year-old Grizzly Adams who never travels, doesn't meet women, or run into trappers and traders," said Haggerty. "Think of all the things they could bring into the stories!"
The actor also wanted his character to begin working on his inner self, developing hobbies. "He's also supposed to be a wood-carver," said Haggerty. "But why hasn't he done anything to fix up his cabin? Why don't they have him expand it by adding a porch or maybe even setting up a potter's wheel!"
