Don Knotts had dreams of playing a dramatic role
The actor, well known for his comedy, wanted to try his hand at a more serious role.
Don Knotts was at his best when performing in a comedy duo. Whether he was acting alongside Tim Conway in The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975) or opposite Andy Griffith in The Andy Griffith Show, the actor knew how to utilize his talents and lend them to a group performance.
However, there was one co-star Knotts found he had little interest in reconnecting with. Early on in his career, Knotts worked as a ventriloquist, though he quickly dropped the act. “I was technically great at the art of ventriloquism, but didn’t like the dummy to get the laughs,” said Knotts during an interview.
Of course, Knotts found success in comedy through sitcoms like Three’s Company. In film, Knotts starred in movies like The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964) and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966).

“I just like to be a good actor in whatever I do,” said Knotts. “Although I love comedy, I would like to try something more dramatically inclined should the chance come up. I have a feeling for good writing, and I think that is important.”
