Jeff Daniels had zero rapport with this Arachnophobia co-star
Then, who would?

We've all had some hairy situations at work... Maybe the guy at the adjacent desk is a creep. Or maybe your boss has a habit of creeping up on you. Does everybody scurry away when the lights come on and it's time to take responsibility? How many of us have been caught up in a web of workplace drama?
Even the weirdest office couldn't hold a torch to the dynamic on the set of Arachnophobia. In addition to all the regular, run-of-the-mill human spectacle of a Hollywood set, this flick had a certain unignorable arachnid quality. The movie is absolutely crawling with spiders! BLECH!
It's no surprise, then, that Arachnophobia star Jeff Daniels had to go that extra mile to manifest that onscreen chemistry that's expected of most actors. Under the best circumstances, Daniels is an undeniable, generational talent, with a filmography boasting hits like Dumb and Dumber, Terms of Endearment, and The Squid and the Whale. On the set of this film, though, Daniels was in over his head, especially when it came to bonding with his scene partner, nine-inch Amazonian bird-eating tarantula Big Bob.
"We had no rapport," Daniels joked to EW Magazine in 1990. "He'd rear up and hiss. They'd feed him a rat every weekend. It would be 'Have a good Saturday night, Bob. See ya Monday.'"
Daniels was used to co-stars of a different caliber, having shared the screen with actors like Debra Winger, Shirley MacLaine, Melanie Griffith, and Ray Liotta. With Big Bob, though, Daniels wasn't only at risk of having the scene stolen.
"I had a problem. Especially when the spider wranglers were off camera, wearing thick, heavy gloves, yelling, 'If he comes after you, we'll be jumping in right away. But meanwhile, it's the movies, you know, and they're going, 'Let's do it again. Let's see if we can get him to crawl closer to Jeff's hand.'"
Luckily for Daniels— but unluckily for fans— Arachnophobia never received the sequel treatment!
