No actors were fighting for superiority on the set of Everybody Loves Raymond
“It’s a joy to come to work in the morning," said actor Doris Roberts.
As a family sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond found tremendous success with an ensemble cast. Though led by actor Ray Romano, the series focused primarily on the Barone family, ensuring that no character was more important than another.
This creed was only further emphasized by the cast behind the scenes.
“No one on this show is trying to grab the spotlight,” said Doris Roberts, better known as Marie Barone, during an interview with The Calgary Herald. “No one’s trying to score an individual touchdown. It’s the best ensemble I’ve ever worked with.”

There’s no overtime, no extra money- nobody cares about that. We simply do it until we get it right and everybody is comfortable.”
The result was not only a phenomenal sitcom that viewers were able to enjoy for nine seasons. It was also a wonderful environment for actors to work together.
“It’s fabulous,” said Roberts. “It’s a joy to come to work in the morning - there are no sick personalities to deal with. We come in prepared to work, and then we go home and have a life. That’s very unusual.”
