Shelley Fabares, who played daughter Mary Stone in The Donna Reed Show and the girlfriend and later wife of Craig T. Nelson on Coach, has passed away.

Fabares started her career early. By age 9 she was on a Producer's Showcase production of Our Town with Frank Sinatra and Paul Newman. In 1958, she landed a featured role in the television serial Walt Disney Presents: Annette, starring Annette Funicello.

Also in 1958, Fabares got one of her most famous roles: playing Mary Stone, the daughter of Donna Reed's Donna Stone on The Donna Reed Show. For the first five seasons, Fabares was a lead alongside Reed herself, Carl Betz, and Paul Peterson. Starting in season six, Fabares chose to reduce her appearances in order to pursue more film opportunities, which was explained by Mary going away to college. Fabares appeared in a guest role throughout the rest of the series.

Fabares also dipped her toe in the world of music. Despite her own admission that she couldn't sing, she had a hit single "Johnny Angel" that went to #1 in April of 1962. Other songs "Johnny Loves Me" and "The Things We Did Last Summer" peaked at #21 and #46 on the Hot 100 respectively.

Fabares made her first film collaboration with Elvis in 1965 with Girl Happy. She would co-star alongside the King in two more films, Spinout (1966) and Clambake (1977).

Her career got a major boost in 1971 when she appeared in the hit TV movie Brian's Song, playing Joy Piccolo, the wife of James Caan's Brian Piccolo. The role got her nominated for a Golden Globe.

Following Brian's Song, Fabares had a long string of TV movies, television guest roles, and a recurring role on One Day at a Time. 

In 1989, Fabares joined the cast of Coach, the Craig T. Nelson-helmed sitcom. As the TV newscaster and girlfriend (later wife) of Nelson's character Hayden Fox, her role as Christine Armstrong garnered her two Emmy nominations.

Fabares was also married to M*A*S*H actor Mike Farrell. The two married in 1984 and appeared onscreen together several times, including as the voices of Martha and Jonathan Kent for Superman: The Animated Series.

Fabares was 82 years old.
