While there’s nothing wrong with keeping things perfectly appropriate, there’s something so delightful and satisfying about being a bit rebellious.

Nobody did rebellion better than the cast of The Golden Girls. A group of mature and experienced actors, these comedic actors had no problem being a little naughty if it meant entertaining an audience.

“As a matter of fact, we hope the scripts will remain bawdy,” said one of the show’s stars, Bea Arthur, during an interview with The Birmingham News. “We’re all bawdy ladies, particularly Betty White.”

Of course, Arthur was playfully joking with White, her co-star. In truth, all the actors in the series respected one another. “We have a marvelous group of performers,” said Arthur. “Betty and Rue are terrific, and Estelle is going to be wonderful. The parts are so well written, it’s going to be fun to get up and go to work every day.”

Co-star Rue McClanahan maintained that the series was a delight to work on. “I’m enjoying every minute of it,” said McClanahan. “I’m very lucky and thrilled to be back with Bea and Betty, two fantastic actresses I’ve worked with before. I’m just excited about the whole project. And the best about it is that I’m getting to play the character I’ve wanted to play all along - the man crazy one…I couldn’t be happier with the way things worked out.”

Arthur spoke for the entire cast when she expressed that she didn’t just enjoy the content of the series; she understood the show’s merit and believed in it.

“I know this show will work,” said the actor. “If it doesn’t, it’s not because of the merits of the script or the work of the actors."
