These stores are gone for good. Which ones would you bring back?

Everything must go!

Nothing lasts forever... Even our favorite retail locations shut down sometimes!

We've compiled a list of great places to shop that have gone the way of the dodo.

Here's the big question: Which ones would you revive? If you could spend one more day browsing the aisles of some of these stores, which ones would you pick?

1. A.C. Moore

Arts and crafters everywhere mourn the loss of A.C. Moore From 1985 to 2019, there were few better places to purchase scrapbooking supplies. Nowadays, visiting A.C. Moore's website redirects you to their one-time competitor, Michael's, who bought the company during liquidation.

2. Borders

This one was particularly hard for book lovers. Gone are the days when you had options to browse for a new paperback. While Barnes & Noble is great, we miss the chance to choose! Here's some good news, depending on where you are in the world: You can still visit Borders in Qatar!

3. Pier 1 Imports

Pier 1 Imports was the perfect place for when you panic on Mother's Day. No matter what kind of Mom you've got, Pier 1 Imports had you covered. However, no amount of furnishings and decor could keep the publicly traded company from filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020. Today, shoppers are sadly pier-less.

4. Tuesday Morning

We love a deal! Unfortunately, we can no longer bank on the affordable discount merchandise at Tuesday Morning. "High-quality items and low prices" was the business plan beginning in 1974, which led the store to expand to over 700 locations. But it just didn't last. After a series of corporate restructurings, Tuesday Morning shut down for good in 2023.

5. Bed Bath & Beyond

Where else are you supposed to buy an air fryer and a fresh set of linens?! BB&B was the destination for gadgets, gizmos, bedding and towels. With their extensive "As Seen on TV" section, Bed Bath & Beyond had something to catch every shopper— until they didn't! They shut down the last of their stores in 2023, but those liquidations sales were to die for!

6. The Bon-Ton

This one's got some serious history! Founded way back in 1898, The Bon-Ton would grow to serve Western New York, Pennsylvania, and the Midwest. Things started going belly up around 2018 when the company closed 42 stores. By then, rapid expansion caught up with the retailer, who was unable to repay its loans. While there are no longer any brick-and-mortar stores, Bon-Ton still exists digitally as "Your Neighborhood Department Store Online!"

7. Barneys New York

Barneys was responsible for introducing several luxury brands to American buyers, such as Armani, Comme des Garçons, Christian Louboutin, and Zegna. Despite its lofty reputation, Barneys filed for bankruptcy for a second time in 2019 and shut its locations shortly thereafter. However, because of the brand's value, Saks Fifth Avenue partnered with the failing company to introduce specialty Barneys sections within its Saks Fifth locations.

8. Warner Bros. Studio Store

Why should Disney have all the fun? First opened in 1991, the Warner Bros. Studio Stores capitalized on the merchandise-friendly Warner Bros. library, creating a ton of great items with all your favorite characters. Anybody who visited will remember the incredibly-designed locations. Some even featured glass elevators carried by Superman!

I never shopped at any of these stores. Never even heard of Bon Ton, Warners, or Barneys. Why weren't Waldenbooks or Sears on the list?

Dose anyone remember Mervyn's? I do back in the day when my parents used to take me shopping for clothes, shoes and a pair of white Saltwater sandals. It's was a good bargain that I really missed the most.

I remember this place but the one that I miss the most was Borders. and also Payless Shoes Source, The Warehouse music and Tower Records.

AC Moore and a number of these stores were never in our area, so can’t really comment on them. Borders was best when they were a local bookstore in downtown Ann Arbor. Pier 1 and BB&B never seemed to change their stock, but BB&B at least had things we needed. I do miss the WB Store, got a lot of Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain items including some great film cells - but they suffered the same fate as the Disney Store when their stock declined in variety and quality.

None of the above. I'd like to resurrect Sam Goody's, only there's no good music to sell at price point anymore. I remember the days I used to spend HOURS combing the racks for out-of-print albums in the bargain bins, as well as the 45s and the new releases. When everything shifted to CDs, it was Tower Records. Alas, no more spending hours in the racks.

Remember stores like Gemco and Fedco, where you had to have a membership card to even get in the door? This was before the likes of Price Club (now Costco) which let just anybody get a membership; the two I mentioned required you to have a particular employer before you could join.

I never heard of A.C. Moore and Tuesday Morning. I really do miss Borders! Going there was sometimes like going to a fun nightclub. B&N is like going to the library.

JJ Newberries, that's a name from the many years ago past. I haven't thought of that store in ? 40 years.
I do wonder will all these big spaced stores closing if small town stores will ever return. The current stores are so darn big, I find it hard to find what I am looking for. The stores have way too much to choose from.

Borders, AC Moore, and Bon-Ton, so I can hang out at Borders while my wife shops at AC Moore and Bon-Ton. I also miss the record stores like Tower Records and Listening Booth.

There are so many stores I would bring back but I will stick with MeTV picks. Pier 1 and Bed Bath and Beyond.

I honestly didn’t know Pier 1 was gone!

Because of high tariffs?

I really miss Pier 1, but all the wonderful stores and entire malls closing, it's beyond sad.

K-Mart, Sears and Borders were great places to shop once upon a time. Sadly Montgomery Ward and J.J. Newberries have been forgotten. Now Big Lots is closing stores and they'll all be gone probably within six months. Maybe one day very soon the only places we'll be to shop at will be Walmart and Target. Talk about market domination!
I miss the Kmart that was near my house. They had the stuff that I needed.
K-Mart had pretty much everything a human could want or need. I remember they had a studio in back at my store where one could take family pics. Good times. Circuit City is another store long forgotten. Lots of great stuff there. Funny Best Buy has survived but Circuit City bit the dust. Not fair.

I loved Kmart. You're right; they did have everything there. I miss it also.

The Kmart that was near my house had a Little Caesar's pizza in the store. I would sometimes go to the KFC or Burger King nearby before going shopping. I really didn't care for the smell of pizza while I was shopping. If they had a popcorn machine then that would've been alright.

The Kmart by me also had a Little Caesar's pizza in the store and I think they also sold hotdogs. You're right; they should have sold popcorn. I love the smell of fresh popcorn. 🍿 ☺️

'Twas at Borders where I had to go to the information desk to find out who performed the lounge version of Black Hole Sun I heard them playing (it was Paul Anka, doing his own take on Pat Boone's heavy metal album).

It was also at Borders where I heard several acoustic covers of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust songs in Portuguese (Brazilian singer Seu Jorge who did the soundtrack of Bill Murray's movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou).

And it was at yet another Borders location where I had to ask directions to the Comedy CD section for Weird Al's then-latest album, to be told by a guy who looked and sounded just like Jeff Goldblum "Comedy is just the other side of Blues". I told him he should get that made into a bumper sticker.

K-Mart and Phar-Mor for me. I may have added Borders, but our local one never seemed to have anything I wanted in stock. And their coffee wasn't very good, either. I liked Barnes & Noble better. Another one not listed that I miss is The Christmas Tree Shops; weird name for a discount store, but I always found cool stuff there.

I forgot about Phar-Mor. That was a good store, they had all kinds of neat stuff. The store in my area was huge.
