Any actor worth their salt understands that one good role doesn't guarantee a lifetime of success. A good actor understands that they're only as good as their next role and that to become a better performer, they need to be open to the opportunity to learn.

Though it sometimes takes years for actors to understand this truth, Allan Kayser knew it almost immediately.

Kayser was already a self-proclaimed fan of The Carol Burnett Show and Mama's Family before he joined the cast. Though he was new to the series, the actor was no stranger to making people laugh.

"I thought I had some talent in comedy. I had worked on a lot of comedy," said Kayser during an interview with The Times. "I would audition for these things and usually do pretty well. For Mama's Family, I just hit it. The character came so quickly. The series is a real career break for me."

Kayser used the opportunity to become a student at the feet of masters, including Vicki Lawrence and Ken Berry.

"The main thing is the learning and growing I am doing. I can't tell you how much I learn every day," said Kayser. "I learn so much from Vicki, Ken, and Dave Powers. He was a director on The Carol Burnett Show. All the others on the show are such good actors. Going to work every day, I am much better than I was. When I come out of this, it will be like coming out of training. Plus, the exposure is a large factor for me."

These factors guaranteed success for Kayser, who wasn't comfortable simply basking in the limelight without bettering himself.

"There are some things in the works," said the actor. "Actually, I'd be content just to be on this show for a while. I think it is going to be a big success. The whole staff is like family."
