While fame and fortune might seem like a dream come true, there's always a downside to everything. It can be easy to get swept up in the glitz and the glamor, and lose sight of who you were before all of it; the person you should truly be.

As an actor, Amanda Blake seemed to be an anomaly all on her own. Although she was incredibly successful in the television industry after appearing as Miss Kitty in the hit series Gunsmoke, the star didn't fully adapt to the television industry. During an interview with the Kansas City Star, Blake was incredibly frank regarding her opinion of the entertainment industry.

"I know I was never into the Hollywood scene," said Blake. "I found it boring, superficial, unreal."

Still, audiences adored Blake, and she continued to appear in Gunsmoke until 1974. During the same interview, Blake admitted that she knew that it was time to leave the industry when she felt herself becoming someone she couldn't recognize. Moreover, she felt that acting was interfering with her true love: animals.

"I was getting to be a person I didn't like," said Blake. "I thought my job was getting in the way of my work. My work is animals."

Of course, Blake did return to acting and was able to divide her attention for performing and advocacy evenly. Just like Miss Kitty, Blake wasn't willing to let anyone or anything stand in the way of what she felt was important.
