Andy Griffith helped calm Nancy Stafford's nerves during her first day of filming on Matlock

"I owe so much to Andy Griffith," said Stafford.

Andy Griffith wasn't just an incredible actor, he was also a genuinely good person. It's a rare quality, but kindness is something that no amount of talent can make up for. Griffith was fortunate enough to demonstrate such talents early in his career that earned him more than a few important roles in film and television. However, Griffith also had a hand in working behind the scenes on projects like The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock. Griffith went above and beyond where most actors were willing to venture, and the quality of the program was all the better for it.

Throughout all of his hard work, Griffith never lost his geniality, especially when it came to working with his fellow actors. Nancy Stafford, who starred in Matlock, alongside Griffith, was openly reverent of the actor during an interview with the Winston-Salem-Journal.

"When we worked together, he would share such wonderful stories, as only he could," said Stafford of Griffith.

Stafford said that Griffith was able to calm her nerves when she first joined the Matlock cast.

"When I walked on that set the very first day, I was absolutely terrified," said Stafford. "But he had a quick way of putting me completely at ease, and the whole set was welcoming...Andy was an amazing consummate professional. He expected a lot from the people around him because he gave that, and more."

Stafford and Griffith kept in touch long after Matlock had wrapped filming, and the actor credited much of the success of her career to him.

"I owe so much to Andy Griffith," said Stafford. "Not only did he give me a tremendous boost in my career, but I learned so much from just watching him. He's a very underrated actor; he's a guy that makes it look easy."

Nancy Stafford is a beautiful soul. I hear her husband is also really nice too. Always enjoy watching her on Matlock.

So, what was his quick way of putting you immediately at ease?

Sometimes these highly condensed articles completely bypass the subject of the title.

in her first episode, Nancy played what used to be a called a "shady lady"! She later came back as a different character after Linda Perl left!

I always thought she was one of the most beautiful ladies I'd ever seen.
Many Matlock actors started with a different character on the show including Kari Lizer, Brynn Thayer and Daniel Roebuck.

I don’t have any idea how long Matlock has been on at 10 am but I’m positive it was on at the start of my working from home during covid which was March 2020. It should be swapped out for one of the other hour long shows that are in the early a.m. such as Mannix, Cannon, Mission Impossible, The Fugitive or Harry O.

I gotta say I disagree. Out of the shows you listed, I watch Mannix, The Fugitive, and Harry O. Putting them earlier might make their ratings go down. I know Mannix was on FeTV and it just couldn't get an audience over there. Idk if it was just people not liking the show or if it was the time slot that killed the show over there. I'd rather the shows stay on the network instead of moving them around and risked being pulled because people can't or won't watch an earlier time slot.
I think a lot of people just like routine. I come in from work about 11:30 or midnight and enjoy watching the Alfred Hitchcock shows and Mannix. I'll record The Fugitive and Harry O and watch those on one of my days off. I tend to watch the same stuff and rarely branch out and can't help but wonder if a lot of people are the same way. Those used to watching Matlock in the mornings might get grouchy that Matlock's gone and something else is in its place.
I suppose that’s true about routine. Personally I like some variety with my tv viewing. The shows cycle around so fast I feel like I just watched them. I can’t understand why they’re on at the same time for years on end. My late mother-in-law could watch the same thing over and over. She got to the point where she could watch an episode on Monday and watch the same episode on Tuesday on a different channel. It drove my husband nuts. 🤭
Maybe you are right but I know there are others wanting the schedule changed. Perhaps most ME viewers do want the same thing, but I know I barely watch ME anymore due to the constant repetition.
