Bea Arthur and Sally Struthers used to gossip in the supermarket when they saw each other
"She was a big deal," said Struthers. "I loved her."

A good coworker can make the work day feel better, but a great coworker is one who eventually becomes a true friend.
As an actor on All in the Family, Sally Struthers had no shortage of good friends. Struthers played Gloria Stivic in the series and was close to various castmates, including Betty Garrett, who played Irene Lorenzo.
Struthers was also close to Bea Arthur, who appeared in All in the Family as Cousin Maude. While Arthur was a guest on the series, her comedic talent was on full display during those episodes of All in the Family. Her appearances led the higher-ups at CBS to develop a spinoff specifically for her character, entitled Maude.

During an appearance on the podcast Let's Talk About That! With Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti, Struthers revealed that she and Arthur remained close friends and would often gossip with each other when they were reunited.
"She moved from New York to L.A," said Struthers. "I would run into her at the supermarket and she would trash everyone we ever knew. We would stand in the aisle and she'd say 'What do you think about so-and-so?' People in the store were like, 'What's going on in aisle five?'" But I loved how filthy she was. She was a big deal. I loved her."
"She was so brilliant on the episode when they filmed...they went, 'Wait a minute. She's so great as Maude, we should give her her own series.' So that's how Maude happened."

I remember when the first episode with Bea as Maude aired, you knew it was special when
she dominated even a seasoned pro like O'Connor. A great comic episode.
What happened to Struthers, its like she disappeared from Hollywood.
I always wonder if 'stars' go to the food store themselves but I'm sure they're not price/sale shopping like we are.
People are always surprised to see stars like MikeyboyfromJersey & IndianaRockz actually doing their own grocery shopping, exchanging coupons, & totally gossipping about MeTV, Wally & Da Beav', Svengoolie & Teenagers from Outer Space, & the outrageous price of eggs!
Scotch Plains. Locals there got used to seeing him after awhile. I was in line at the 7-11,
looking at the little fellow in front of me, as he looked like Dudley Moore.
The guy left.
I commented to the counter guy he looked like Moore, he told me it was and that
he lived locally which I didn't know then. Nothing to do with his talent, but he was
surprisingly small, maybe 5 feet three.
That Teenagers from Outer Space was strictly from hunger, but I couldn't stop watching it.
I get the impression Gwengoolie is being groomed to replace Svengoolie, otherwise
why have a female clone of him?
Lol yes that Teenagers from Outer Space was sooooo bad that it was good! SUCH classic B-movie bad acting. And yes, I was thinking that too about that witty Gwengoolie & posse for when Sven retires cuz he's been at it a long time. Wonder if she/they won that "talent" search he had where people were sending in videos of themselves. I remember watching Sven from the beginning & remember watching the hippie-ish ghoul guy before him that he took over from. I think it was on WFLD Channel 32 out of Chicago. I hope they show the bad/good "Killdozer" movie cuz it has been years since I saw that one on tv. (Hint hint MeTV moderators....)
