How long must an actor play a character until they become them? There are certainly worse women to become than Rose Nylund. Sure, she’s a bit dim-witted a great deal of the time, but her heart and dedication are to be admired. We’d be lucky to see some hints of Rose in ourselves.

Of course, we’d also be quite lucky to share a few traits with Betty White as well. The Golden Girls actor revealed that there was more to her character than meets the eye.

“I find there’s an appalling amount of Rose in me - that I didn’t know about,” said the actor, who called Rose “the sympathetic one” during an interview with The Times.

For someone with such a welcoming stage presence, White confessed that originally, she had aspirations behind the camera.

“I wanted to be a big writer,” said the actor during an interview with the New York Daily News. “In high school, I wrote the senior play and made myself the lead…I guess that’s how I started acting.”

One of White’s first jobs was co-hosting the program Hollywood on Television. White said that working on the series was “like going to television college.”

“We could do anything we wanted,” said the actor. “Whatever happened, happened on camera…Like playing an improv game every day - except it was going out live!”
