David Canary explained the truth behind his supposed ''feud'' with Bonanza co-star, Michael Landon

Rest assured, cowboy, this was no time for a showdown.

There is seemingly no shortage of on-set feuds between co-stars. Granted, there's no guaranteeing that everyone will get along, but sometimes a feud can sour the entire show, for cast and audience alike. When a feud gets too big, it can overshadow the series as a whole, with audiences actively avoiding a brilliant show simply because of the drama that went on behind the scenes.

Still, an onscreen feud is great gossip for the press, and everyone knows that if there's no hot gossip going around Hollywood, something is bound to be invented.

When David Canary joined the cast of Bonanza as Candy Canaday, he was swarmed by fans and well-wishes. However, it wasn't long before rumors of an off-screen rift between Canary and his co-star, Michael Landon, began to circulate.

Canary was a straight-shooter and was quick to put that rumor to bed during an interview with The Cincinnati Enquirer. "I had heard that Mike was upset— Mike Landon," said Canary. "This might have some logical basis. Mike and I do the same kind of action. He might have thought I was intruding. But never once did he mention this to me. And never was he anything but helpful."

Landon was more than helpful; he made sure that Canary was able to enjoy all the comforts that being an actor in Bonanza had to offer.

"My first week on the show, someone in the cast went to the sponsor to get me a car," said the actor. "You know who it was? Mike Landon."
