Look, it's just a well-known fact that sometimes, breaking the rules is really fun. We'd like to note that there are rules that exist for a reason, so don't go driving above the speed limit or jumping into any zoo enclosures.

However, some rules only exist out of fear of breaking what we consider to be the societal "norm." Sometimes, breaking the rules means an opportunity to grow into something better.

Some of the best things in life are borne out of hard work, going against what those above you want. As the star of a network television series, Dick Van Dyke understood that better than anyone.

"All of my favorite shows were the very shows we had to fight the network for," Van Dyke said at a recent event, according to PEOPLE.

"We fought the network tooth and nail," he said. "They just didn't want us to do it."

One of these fights occurred over the episode, "That's My Boy??" Today, that episode is widely regarded as one of the most memorable episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show. But during the episodes' conception, series creator Carl Reiner received pushback from the network.

"When the audience saw that couple walking in the door, they started to laugh and we had to cut the camera and just sit there," said Van Dyke. It was the longest laugh I have ever experienced in my life — and the network didn't like it."

Still, Van Dyke had no regrets. "It was just great," he said. "Boy, that was fun."
