It takes a good heart and a strong demeanour to be Superman, even if you only wear that blue and red suit for a brief period. Like Superman, George Reeves was more than willing to stand up for his friends in the face of adversity.

According to the actor's former co-stars on Adventures of Superman, Reeves wasn't shy about coming to anyone's defense. Noel Neill, better known as Lois Lane, joined the cast of Adventures of Superman during the show's second season. She recalled one instance early on where Reeves came to her rescue when dealing with a particularly nasty director.

"When I first joined the group, I had a little trouble with one of the directors," said Neill during an interview with The Central New Jersey Home News. "And George just stopped the shooting. He motioned the director over into the corner. It turned out he said, 'Listen. This is the kid's first day with a new group. Give her a break.' I appreciated that for the rest of my life."

According to DC Comics: Sixty Years of the World's Favorite Comic Book Heroes by Les Daniels, Reeves also came to the defense of actor Robert Shayne, who appeared in the series as Inspector Henderson.

During the 1950s, when paranoia was rampant, Shayne was accused of being a radical. Reeves, along with producer Whitney Ellsworth, stood behind the actor. Without the two men, Shayne may have lost his job.
