Here's what the ''drinks'' on The Love Boat were actually made of
Ted Lange, who played Isaac Washington, revealed the truth.

You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who would turn down a free vacation on The Love Boat, but everything is not as it seems. For example, did you know that those drinks the passengers are constantly enjoying throughout episodes were actually nothing more than water?
You heard it here first from the bartender himself, Ted Lange. Lange is best known for playing Isaac Washington, who served as the show's bartender. However, during an interview with the Tampa Tribune, Lange revealed that there was no alcohol consumption while filming the series.
"Actors have a hard enough time remembering their lines," said Lange. "It's just colored water. Every once in a while, I get to fool around and make up a concoction with lots of colors."

Lange almost didn't make it aboard the ship, as when he was offered the role of Washington, he had already committed to another series.
"I was asked if I wanted to do Love Boat, but I said I was in this great new show. The show wasn't working, but we didn't know it because the producer had told us everything was fine...They asked me again if I got out to see much. I said no. They asked me if I wanted to go on a cruise. I said, 'Hey, I'm going to be a star in this show.'"
Luckily, when one door closes, another one opens. When Lange's previous series fell through, he took an acting opportunity on The Love Boat and walked into more success than he could have possibly dreamed of.
"The next thing I knew, the show was down the tubes, and I was looking for a gig," said Lange. "I ended up doing The Love Boat starting on the Mexican Riviera. And with enough money to produce my own plays."
