Jon Walmsley said that this was the one thing that bothered him about The Waltons

Walmsley loved his time on the series, save for one aspect.

Viewers flocked to The Waltons because it offered a glimpse of a simpler life.

Though it began airing in the 1970s, The Waltons was set in a rural community in the 1930s and 40s. With so much turbulence and uncertainty in the 1970s, the series offered a nice escape. Many fans appeared to be nostalgic for the sort of life that the Walton family lived, even though they had never lived through it themselves.

But while the series was a great comfort to fans, that didn't mean that there wasn't a great deal of uncertainty behind the scenes.

During an interview with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, actor Jon Walmsley revealed that he only had one issue with his time working on The Waltons.

Walmsley, of course, portrayed the second eldest Walton son, Jason. Like his character, Walmsley had a passion for music in addition to acting. However, the actor found the series to be unpredictable.

"There's only one thing that bothers me about The Waltons," said Walmsley. "And that is that they never tell us actors what's coming. I have no idea what's to become of Jason Walton."

Despite the open-ended nature of the show's development, Walmsley was allowed to lend a hand in developing future plots for his character. No one knew Jason better than he did.

"I've talked to some of the writers and we think it'd be a good idea if he didn't go to college," said Walmsley. "He's interested in a musical career and he'd probably feel that college was not needed for his future."
