The younger cast members of Happy Days would often go to Tom Bosley for advice
Bosley's costars often turned to the actor for wisdom.
The mark of a truly talented actor is when the line between themselves and the character they play begins to blur. Tom Bosley was fortunate enough to play many good-natured characters throughout his career as an actor, though none more famous than that of Howard Cunningham of Happy Days.
The series ran for eleven seasons, with Bosley being an integral member of the cast throughout the entirety of the show's run. While many consider such a lengthy run a mark of success, others were worried that cast members may grow bored with the monotonous schedule. Bosley was quick to dispel those rumors.
"I'm not bored," said Bosley during an interview with The Morning Call. "We're probably the only long-running show with people who aren't bored. The reason is that our producer, Garry Marshall, encourages us to do other things. And he willingly arranges schedules so we can. He realizes that actors stay fresh and enthusiastic when they have a chance to do other things."
Bosley served as a mentor, both on the screen and off. The younger members of the Happy Days cast saw the actor as a friend, though it took a while to reach that point.
"When we started, they all called me 'Mr. Bosley,'" said the actor. "It wasn't until we seemed sure of being around for a while that they began calling me 'Tom.'"
Eventually, the Happy Days cast became as close as the family they played on screen, with many of the younger actors turning to Bosley for advice.
"Early on, they all came to me for advice - what kind of house to buy, what sort of investments to make, and so on," said Bosley. "Now, I think I should go to them for advice."
