William Shatner tried to dissuade his children from becoming actors
The actor called himself "old school."

Very few children want to follow directly in their parents' footsteps. Still, our parents are often our first role models, the people we look to for guidance and answers. It's no wonder that we might turn to their career and picture taking it on one day ourselves.
William Shatner considered himself a vintage actor of sorts, coming from the old days of Hollywood, where a performer never knew exactly where or when their next role would come.
"I come from the old school," said Shatner during an interview with the Express-News. "Don't pass up a job at hand. I starved for too many years."
While Shatner survived that life long enough for him to strike it big in the industry, he didn't necessarily advise it as a career choice for others, especially those close to him. Shatner has three children, all of whom undoubtedly loved their father and the projects he performed in. Did Shatner's career have a formative effect on his kids? When pressed as to whether he'd allow his children to become actors, he was honest.
"I am trying to dissuade them," said Shatner. "Every so often, I see my youngest daughter doing a pirouette, and I tell her to stop that. But, really, in the end, it is what they want to do. I don't really mind."
Shatner, of course, ascended to fame in Star Trek: The Original Series. His time playing Captain Kirk colored the rest of his career, something that he welcomed frequently. Even if he wasn't too keen on his children becoming actors, he could certainly always count on them being fans.
