Yikesgeist Exclusive: Terrifier 3's Daniel Roebuck on how he became Santa
"I actually begged to be in the movie!"
Daniel Roebuck is one of those perennial "that guy" actors. Even if you're unsure of his name, you see his face and go, "Oh! That guy!"
That's because he's been in everything. Fans of classic TV will remember Roebuck as Cliff Lewis on Matlock. Or, maybe you recall him in his roles in movies like The Fugitive or River's Edge. Perhaps you recall him playing the part of Frankie Muniz's dad in Agent Cody Banks.
You'll absolutely know Daniel Roebuck if you're a horror fan. Roebuck has been in everything from Final Destination to Phantasm V, and Rob Zombie's Halloween. Roebuck is clearly one of Zombie's favorite actors to work with, as he's also appeared in The Devil's Rejects, The Lords of Salem, 31, 3 From Hell, and The Munsters.
As if those credits weren't enough to prove Roebuck's horror bona fides, he has one of the most memorable moments in Damien Leone's box office smash Terrifier 3. In it, Roebuck steals the scene as a barfly Santa Claus who meets his match in Art the Clown. This is no small feat, as he shares the screen with none other than Clint Howard!
Roebuck's a pivotal role, as that Santa suit ends up on our grisly baddie for most of the movie. So, how'd he score such an enviable job on one of 2024's most successful horror movies? Yikesgeist has the answer in our exclusive interview with the horror icon!
"When I found out I was going to be in Terrifier 3," said Roebuck, "it was kind of not a surprise because this is how it went: They said they're making Terrifier 3, and I said to Damien Leone, 'Who am I playing?'"
"I actually begged to be in the movie. Because I knew it was going to be a big hit. I'd worked with Damien on a movie called Stream, and the Leavy brothers, and they all together— with Phil Falcone— they make these movies. Anyway, so I begged to be in it, and when he said I was going to be Santa Claus, I was overjoyed. I knew if it's a Christmas movie, he's got to get his costume from someone. So, it was Santa Claus. So, it was great!"
