Yvonne Craig once said that Bruce Wayne was ''too square'' for Barbara Gordon
Clearly, she'd never seen Bruce Wayne do the Batusi.
Before she kick-spun her way onto the screen (and into our hearts) as Batgirl, Yvonne Craig was busy spinning in the Ballet Russe. Craig had performed in the company for about three years before she was offered an opportunity to go to Europe. However, she elected to continue her journey on the screen.
In an interview with the Sioux City Journal, Craig explained, "I got side-tracked with movies. Ballet isn't exactly a thriving business, you know, so I didn't go to Europe." While the switch from stage to screen was a big one, Craig was pleased with the decision and reminded everyone, "Don't forget that the working life of a dancer is comparatively short when you compare it with an actress' working life."
Moreover, Craig found that she actually preferred the pace of an actress' working life when she joined the cast of Batman in the third season. Of the pace of television, Craig said, "It kind of makes for an exciting week." She also added that she believed television to be a beneficial way to gain more film opportunities. She said, "It's the best way to get into the public eye and to attain better movie roles."
Craig was also pressed about Barbara Gordon's potential love interests in the series, though the actor wasn't especially concerned with Batgirl's romantic life. However, of the caped crusader, she said this much: "Barbara Gordon thinks Bruce Wayne is too square for her." She also called Batman "out of reach" as a romantic prospect.
