Yvonne De Carlo said The Munsters revived her career
"It meant security," De Carlo said of the series.
Though it lived a short life, The Munsters lived on in the hearts and minds of television fans everywhere. The series enjoyed only two seasons, but in that time, it was recognized by critics and viewers alike for its comedic merit.
The ending of the series was punctuated by the 1966 movie, Munster, Go Home!, which was released shortly after the second season finished airing.
Series star Yvonne DeCarlo admitted that she had mixed feelings about the ending of The Munsters. On the one hand, she credited the show with the revival of her career.
“It meant security,” De Carlo said of the series during an interview with the Associated Press. “It gave me a new, young public I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It made me ‘hot’ again, which I wasn’t for a while. It’s been nothing but good for me, and I’m very sorry to see it go.”
However, De Carlo also admitted that despite the security, she was growing bored with the series. Moreover, without a television series to film, De Carlo was given the opportunity to pursue new roles.
“I can’t be too sad because now I can do other things,” said the actor. "I was getting disinterested, and that’s bad. I have a few years left. My figure and acting are better than ever. I know I can do other things with real zest.”
