A Memorable Night- and the Season Continues!

Posted on October 15, 2014

I just wanted to add a "thank you" to everyone who showed up at the Museum of Broadcast Communications and packed the full house for the "35 Years of Svengoolie" event last Friday night!

It was pretty overwhelming- when I walked into the room and saw that every seat was taken- after already being amazed by the number of people who had come to the VIP "meet and greet" before the  main program. Bruce Dumont, the man who founded the museum, started off the festivities- and  then, Ald. Bob Fioretti and State Rep. Kay Hatcher read the respective official proclamations of the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois  making October 31st, 2014 "Svengoolie/ Rich Koz Day"! Kay has a wonderful sense of humor, and played with the fact that my last name had been mispronounced- quite well! Neal Sabin- the man who brought me to Weigel Broadcasting, and created MeTV (and put me on it!) came up to talk about our history. My pal Dave Plier added a few words about me, then, after a brief retrospective tape feature, my two friends from the "You and Me This Morning" show, Jeanne Sparrow and Melissa Forman, came up to do a lovely interview segment, chatting about various aspects of my career, and we even took a few questions from the audience.

Then- the big moment arrived- the unveiling of the new permanent exhibit, featuring my original coffin and many of our set pieces. It is a wonderful and accurate recreation of our set, complete with rubber chickens, my original "chicken shield", and some historic Sven photos. Dave Plier suggested I stand in the display so guests could take some pictures- little did I realize I'd be in that glass enclosure for a long time, as so many of the visitors snapped photos!

Howard Ankin, who I've been doing commercials with, said some very kind things about me- and we followed that up with the costume contest- finishing the evening showing a vintage Sven show. I did some final signing for attendees as the movie ran, then, called it a night- a very memorable and flattering night! We hope to show some highlights of the evening down the line on our show. meanwhile- you can see the Sven exhibit , from now on, at the museum in downtown Chicago- for information , just go to www.museum.tv

Meanwhile, our Halloween season tour continues- with the first of two Elgin events occurring this Saturday afternoon. we'll be visiting Feeny Chrysler  Dodge Jeep for their big Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 18! I'll be signing autographs, taking photos, and we will have Sven merchandise available. There will be free pumpkins for any kids who come in costume. You can visit with me there from 1-3 pm- if you need more information, you'll  find it at feenyautos.com.  Then our second Elgin visit is, of course,to  the massive street party -"Nightmare on Chicago Street"- on Saturday night, October 25!
