A Salute to Jerry G. Bishop on the Grammys!

Posted on January 23, 2014

I am very please to hear that my mentor and friend, the original Svengoolie, the late Jerry G. Bishop, will be mentioned in the "In Memoriam" segment of the Grammy Awards Sunday night on CBS.

Ken Ehrlich, the show's producer, worked with Jerry here in Chicago at WTTW, when they worked together on the original version of the concert show "Made in Chicago", which Jerry hosted. Ken has worked on adding Jerry to the memorial names, in honor of his work with the music industry, as a deejay, and - for his touring with the Beatles for two years as one of the radio guys chosen to travel with them on tour. Jerry did lots of interviews with john, Paul, George, and Ringo- and some of the interview tapes were used in a big box set about the Beatles released a few years ago. I remember Jerry mentioning that he would still get a Christmas card from Paul every year.

Jerry's daughter Melissa contacted me to let me know about Sunday- and I'm so happy that he will get this well-deserved nod on the national stage!
