Alucard’s on the Table- Lon Jr. is “Son of Dracula” Tonight!

Posted on March 2, 2013

If you've only seen Lon Chaney Jr. as the sullen Larry Talbot- catch a change of pace performance tonight as Big Junior grows a 'stache, and plays a sophisticated count who, unlike Talbot, is dead - or is it, UNdead?- in "Son of Dracula"! In this 1943 entry to the Dracula series,a wealthy southern family, including a young daughter who's into the occult, is visited by her new acquaintance, one Count Alucard (hmmm- dyslexic Drac?)- right after the patriarch of the family is found dead. When the daughter finds a will that only leaves her the old family plantation, her fiance is suspicious- and soon catches her with Alucard- who reveals that the couple is now married!Another sudden death and strange behavior soon clues in concerned parties that a vampire is in their midst! Chaney seems somewhat subdued as the Count- and is actually the first vampire to turn into a bat on screen! It also is the first time the Count has stepped onto American soil (there's still controversy as to whether the Count IS Dracula , or is his son, as the title states!)We'll fill you in on more cast info and trivia in the show-along with the requisite Sven shtick. "Son of Dracula" hits the airwaves on Me-TV tonight at 10 pm eastern,9 pm central, or- check your local listings for when we run in your area. In the Chicago viewing area-you can see "Werewolf of London" at 11 am on the U- WCIU! Once again, it's time for the national Rondo horror awards-and, yes, I'm nominated as favorite horror host in category 22. Last year, I lost to the luscious Elvira by just a handful of votes. You can vote for me- or, indeed, whoever your favorite host is- at www.rondoaward.com - you must follow instructions, or your vote won't count! You must include your name, and can only vote once. If you vote for me-thank you in advance!
