Another Round with Rondo

Posted on May 13, 2014

I am very proud to announce that, yes, indeed- Svengoolie has been voted "favorite horror host" once again in the national Rondo horror/sci fi awards!

For the second year in a row (and the third time over all), your support , your votes, and your carefully following the voting rules (yes, that DOES count for a lot!) put me in first place in the horror host category. I am so flattered that so many of you from around the country saw fit to name me as your favorite. Coming in right behind me was my friend Penny Dreadful (not to be confused with the current Showtime cable series of the same name), with honorable mentions for fellow veteran hosts like Count Gore de Vol, Dr. Gangrene, Son of Ghoul, Wolfman Mac, and Karlos Borloff.

I was happy to see that the independent film "Son of Ghostman" also won a Rondo, and the book "Hidden Horror" by Aaron Christensen  was also a winner! Other friends were runners-up in their categories; the  "Terror from Beyond the Daves" blog, and the Svengoolie tribute issue of "Scary Monsters" magazine. It was nice to see a special "Pure in Heart" award go to Magoo  Gelehrter - "Garou" from Penny Dreadful's  show- he has faced  some very tough physical challenges due to illness, and is bravely recovering.

Certainly, there are others whom I would like to see honored, and I would hope they will all get their chance in future years. I honestly was not expecting to win again this year, and was genuinely surprised- but also would have been happy for whichever host  won, helping to keep the horror hosting tradition alive.

A dear actress friend of mine told me a story that I will no doubt be repeating in future stories and interviews- when her mother first came to this country, and the Chicago area, from Poland, she learned to speak English from television- specifically, from two programs. One was "Sesame Street", and the other was - "Son of Svengoolie"! ( I keep imagining her friends reacting in confusion when she would constantly use the phrase "Berwyn"...) That story just reaffirms something that I've found out so many times now- what I do has made a difference in the lives of many people- and that means a lot to me. I've written this in the blog space before, but, one more time- the support and friendship  of all of you Sven viewers- who have brought me to this point in my career and my life- has made a difference in MY life! So- thank you- once again.

I hope I'll see  many of you at the anniversary celebration at Al N Ann's Collectibles in McHenry this Saturday afternoon- check under our "appearances" tab on this site for full details!

And- for some DELI-cate fun- go to www.metvnetwork.com and get a taste of their unique game-"Guess Who's Behind the Olive Loaf"! You could have a chance to win a special one of a kind Me-TV t-shirt! (Don't expect me to be behind the olive loaf- I'm too much of a ham...)
