Barbara Stanwyck Strolls with the “Night Walker”- Plus Trace Beaulieu- Tonight!

Posted on September 5, 2015

We start off September with Barbara Stanwyck's final big screen picture (before pretty much limiting herself to television)- a less-gimmicky offering from the legendary William Castle- in which her dreams come true- and become nightmares- in "The Night Walker"!

Irene (played by Barbara) is married to Howard- a wealthy blind old man- who hears her talking in her sleep- and deduces that she has a secret lover! He suspiciously questions his lawyer,Barry, who appears to be the ONLY person who visits their home. As the lawyer is heading out, Irene explains her sleep-talking to him- oh, she does have a lover- but he only appears in her dreams! Once Barry leaves, Howard again confronts her- and she flees from the house. Moments later- a deadly event occurs- and the husband is gone!

Soon after, Irene begins having terrifying night-time encounters in this house- but- are they real or more dreams? She moves out of the house, and into a beauty parlor she owns- thinking this will free her from these strange events- but far from it- as her supposed "only existing in dreams" lover begins to make nightly visits- that become more and more bizarre and threatening! And-the dreamy "night walker" isn't the ONLY one who appears in this new nightmare world Irene is thrown into- as she and Barry try to prove what is real- or - if nothing is!

This 1964 movie brings us big time actors Stanwyck and Robert Taylor- plus an actor we know much better from the world of sitcoms, and a couple other familiar faces. Though it is, as I said, a less gimmicky offering from William Castle, whose "Tingler" and "House on Haunted Hill" might be more associated with him, there are some very Castle-like effects and twists to the story.

Plenty of Sven stuff in this show as well, including a segment we shot at the C2E2 convention earlier this year, featuring our friend- known to many as Dr. Forrester of "MST3K"- Trace Beaulieu ! Yes, movie hosting worlds collide-sort of!

"Night Walker" sneaks into view tonight on MeTV at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 central, or check your local listings for time in your area. Our Chicago viewers get a second look at "The Thing That Couldn't Die" at 11 am on our sister station, WCIU- the U!

We have posted our September appearances under the usual tab on this site, as we kick off our Halloween season tour mid-month. Also, for those who have tried to order Sven shirts and found their size sold out- as I mentioned in the Sven newsletter, we are in the process of switching to a new vendor who will be able to handle orders faster- we apologize if the size you want is currently out of stock- but, as soon as the new fulfillment set-up is launched- I will notify you here in the blog! We appreciate your patience.

We hope you enjoy your Labor Day weekend- and our never-ending labor of love, as always, this week's new show- and- coming up, there will be a few more new movies, plus some updated classics perfect for our Halloween season!
