Bela Lugosi Commands Killer Ape in Poe’s “Murders in the Rue Morgue” Tonight!

Posted on March 22, 2014

It's a  brand new Sven show tonight, with a  vintage universal classic- taken from a tale By Edgar Allan Poe, Bela Lugosi doesn't let death get in the way of experimenting to prove his theory that humans and apes can be merged! The mystery and mayhem abound in "Murders in the Rue Morgue"!

Some happy couples wind up a visit to a carnival with a trip to a strange sideshow- where they are greeted by one Dr. Mirakle, who immediately warns them that he is not some sideshow charlatan- but a serious scientist with an amazing discovery! He presents Erik- an ape that he claims can speak and is an ancestor of man. He then speaks of his theory that apes and mankind are so similar- they can be combined!

When a lovely young lady, Camille, approaches the ape,it's obvious that the primate is attracted to her- which doesn't set well with her fiance,Pierre, a young medical student - and results in an altercation. Mirakle is encouraged by the ape's interest in the girl, and endeavors to find out where she lives.

We learn why shortly- Mirakle is kidnapping women, and combining their blood with ape blood to provide a human mate for Erik-with horrible results! And- with his sights set on Camille-danger lurks with the shadow of a gorilla!

I'm happy that we can bring you this version of the story- with Bela eerie and sinister as Mirakle, and the gorilla played by an actual ape- and a man in an ape suit (we'll tell you about the legendary guy IN that suit during the show...) We have lots of behind-the-scenes stuff, and- since the movie is a little short- some extra Sven stuff for you to enjoy.

"Murders in the Rue Morgue" runs tonight on Me-TV at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 pm central, and, if you're not sure  when we run in your area- please check your local listings. If you're not sure WHERE we run in your area, remember you can always  go to www.metvnetwork.com, click on "where to watch"  and enter your zip code. In Chicago, at 11 am on the U, WCIU, you can get another look at "Dr. Cyclops".

Well, thanks to your help, I was victorious over "Daniel Boone" in the "Me-Madness " competition at the Me-TV website at the address I gave in the previous paragraph. Now, however, they have me pitted against the Caped Crusader- "Batman"! Knowing how a different joker usually fares against that kind of competition, I'm  not holding my breath- but would still appreciate your vote- this round ends by late Sunday night, so- cast your vote!

And, yes, I am again nominated for "favorite horror host"- category # 24 in the national Rondo awards. Watch for a blog soon where I'll indicate some of my picks for these national horror awards- but, you can always go to www.rondoaward.com  and choose your favorites at any time. If I'm one of them- many thanks. Remember- you can only vote ONCE- all the rules and regulations are on their site.

And- I hope to see YOU at the Brookfield Zoo AAZK "spaghetti dinner" event this upcoming Thursday, benefiting preservation of wild land for grizzly bears and other wildlife by the Vital Ground organization! You can check the info out under "appearances" on this site.

Hmm- between apes tonight and bears on Thursday,- not to mention the usual chickens- maybe I should start building an ark...
