Boris and Bela Face Off with the Touch of Death and “Invisible Ray” -Tonight!

Posted on January 25, 2014

The final entry in our "ROCK in the New Year" January theme is a rarely- seen Bela Lugosi/Boris Karloff classic that viewers have been asking to see again since we first showed it- it's 1936's "Invisible Ray"!

Dr. Janos Rukh gathers a group of scientists and relatives to explain his strange discovery of  the location of a unique meteor that has struck earth-  that is composed of the radioactive "Element X"! He convinces his audience, including the usually-skeptical Dr. Felix Benet, to accompany him to Africa to find this element, which he feels could be the source of great power. There is conflict, though- between Rukh and Benet, between Rukh and his young wife, and more- and Rukh finally goes off to find and mine the mysterious element- but  there are dire consequences- including the element's dangerous radiation bestowing the "Touch of Death"- and Rukh feeling his expedition mates have betrayed him-putting their very lives in jeopardy!

Again, the teaming of Universal's two great horror stars pays off big-time- the tension between Karloff (Rukh) and Lugosi (Benet) creates some chilling moments. We'll talk about the cast, provide lots of information, and bring you plenty of Sven fun!

"The Invisible Ray" beams your way over Me-TV tonight at 10 pm eastern and pacific, 9 pm central time, and , if you're not sure- check your local listings for the time in your area. For our Chicago home town viewers, you'll be digging a second helping of "The Mole People" on our sister station, WCIU, the U at 11 am!

The radioactive rock that winds up our "ROCK in the New Year"theme this month provides a great wind-up... by the way, if you want to know about February- make sure you subscribe NOW to our newsletter- it comes out every month, right at the beginning of each month, and always includes the theme and the movies for that month!
