Company’s Coming- “It Came from Outer Space” Tonight!

Tonight on Me-TV, it’s time to put out the welcome mat- for some unwelcome visitors who find a way to "blend in"- in a shocking way-as a local resident fights to convince his neighbors that some of the neighbors "aren't themselves"- because “It Came from Outer Space”!

In a story by the great Ray Bradbury, things are quiet and peaceful  in the desert town of Sand Rock, Arizona. On a clear night, author John Putnam and his girlfriend Ellen are having a romantic interlude, enjoying the star-filled sky-when they observe a bright object streaking across the sky-and striking the ground in the distance!  John, a curious amateur astronomer,can't wait to go see the point of impact- but, when he heads down into the crater created by the object, he is astounded when, instead of the expected meteorite- he finds a strange spheroid object that appears to have a hatch! Just as he thinks he sees "something" lurking inside this weird construct-something causes an avalanche,covering the object, and almost burying John, who just manages to make to back to the lip of the crater.

When he tries to explain to people what he saw-well, saying they seem skeptical is an understatement.His loyal girlfriend Ellen isn't completely convinced of what he thinks he saw, but nonetheless, supports John and will help him try to uncover the facts- and then convince the local authorities. Things get more confusing- with the fleeting appearance of some kind of creature, and the discovery of odd glittering slime trails. Local citizens are suddenly missing- and when some reappear, they don't seem the same! When the authorities start to catch on that all is not well- John has something new to convince them of - that taking the wrong action could doom everyone! What is the visitors' actual plan- and will it mean the end of the humans who suspect them?

This 1957 movie , according to our friend Nick Digilio of WGN Radio, was a movie that sent a young John Carpenter running in fright from the theater he was viewing it in- and got him interested in making scary films! This movie was originally a 3-D extravaganza- but we bring it to you in terrifying two dimensional form! We'll talk about our cast, featuring Richard Carlson, Barbara Rush, and others - including a recognizable face from”Gilligan’s Island”- and, of course, Sven shtick for your amusement.
