Farewell, Yvonne Craig

I join our MeTV family and viewers in mourning the loss of the lovely Yvonne Craig- who was so delightful as young Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl- and so many other roles. I remember when , early on at our station, I ran Elvis' "It Happened at the World's Fair"-  and who should he be snuggling with on a sofa but- Yvonne?! Of course, her role as a green-skinned temptress  on "Star Trek" comes to mind- and it has always been a pleasant surprise to be watching one of our many MeTV programs and realize that she was there in yet another role.

An accomplished dancer, she also did many of her own stunts on "Batman"- and was brought onto the show to try to get older men and young girls to tune in (for differing reasons, of course!) She was a talented lady, and seemed to have a great sense of humor about herself. I recall seeing her on a Batman reunion-type show ( which included possibly the last public appearance of Alan Napier-"Alfred") and she was so funny and winsome!

Several of my co-workers were surprised to hear that Ms. Craig was 78 years old-  I guess we always have that vision of her in her 1960s look locked into our minds. Recently,she had been battling cancer for over two years, and now is finally at peace.

The Bat Signal should be dimmed  in her honor.

In other news- Twitter has finally verified my Svengoolie Twitter account- meaning that it is legitimately and authentically the real Twitter of yours truly. I know that verification comforts some people, in that they know it really is me!
