Fur VS Fire : “King Kong VS Godzilla” Tonight!

Posted on February 8, 2014

We get so many requests for Godzilla films, and, as I've explained before, the distributors  have not made most available to us. However, fear not! We have been able to bring forth from the Universal vaults a meeting of the King of the Monsters and the King who is Kong- as "Feb-U-Hairy" mixes hair and scales in an epic tussle that is definitely NOT an Olympic competition-"King Kong VS Godzilla"!

An American submarine is trapped by the collapse of an iceberg- which happens to be the icy prison of the monster Godzilla, who ends up released upon the world (specifically Japan) once again. In another story, the greedy  pharmaceutical company chief who sponsors various TV shows feels he needs something sensational to bring viewers  to his programs- and, upon hearing of the discovery of a giant monster on a far away island, decides that should be his attraction (what, the Kardashians weren't available?) ! He sends an expedition out to the island to bring "it" back alive.

Meanwhile, instinct is drawing Godzilla back to Japan- as the island expedition has not only discovered that their monster is the legendary super-sized ape,King Kong, but, using some island "chemistry", have managed to get Kong on a raft to transport him  to Japan as well. Unfortunately, Kong escapes, and makes his own way there- only to meet up with the flame- spitting Godzilla!  Their face-offs put the nation in danger as they battle for supremacy.

This 1963 simian-amphibian smackdown  provides us with a Kong only slightly more believable than the one in "King Kong Escapes"- we'll give you production details, including the evolution of the movie from a possible stop-motion animation feature- with slightly different protagonists- to the final product. We'll explain who was originally behind the idea, and introduce you to some of the  cast members- a few who may be familiar to you. There's also the Sven elements- including some ideas of how the two movie headliners could team up for some two-man (or monster) road shows. Of course, there's a song, and, yes, the new coffin  appears (though the old one makes an appearance in one background- hey, until we get it over to the museum , it can be set dressing...)

"King Kong VS Godzilla" gets ready to rumble tonight at 10 pm eastern and pacific, 9 pm central, and please check what time we're on in your area via your local listings. Again, this is a movie that Universal will not allow us to show in Hawaii, so our viewers in the lovely islands state will instead be seeing "Lady Frankenstein". Meanwhile, in the less than tropical clime we call Chicago, Saturday morning viewers can see "Tarantula" on WCIU, the U at 11am.

If I can add some information on a different matter: should you have questions about a Sven merchandise order- or about your Sven monthly newsletter- PLEASE go to www.metvnetwork.com, use the "contact" e-mail, and send them a message- they direct it to the people who handle these things. I have nothing to do with the handling of orders or the e-mailing of the newsletter. Seriously- if you order a Batman t-shirt, and realize you ordered the wrong size- do you send a message to Batman? All kidding aside, the Me-TV website will take care of your questions and problems.

I hope you'll enjoy the big guys battling tonight! It seems appropriate, with the weather as it has been in most parts of the country, that Godzilla first appears coming out of an  iceberg!
