Get Bugged by the “Deadly Mantis” Tonight!

Posted on March 23, 2013

It's not Johnny Mathis- it's not Dudley Mantis- it's not a deadly mattress- it's the beloved 1950s classic "big bug" movie- the "Deadly Mantis" on Svengoolie tonight! Natural occurrences in other climate ranges cause icebergs in the Arctic to shift- and a giant prehistoric creature gets thawed out of suspended animation. When odd incidents begin to occur way up north, military personnel stationed on the DEW line don't KNOW what to "dew"-and can't figure out what exactly is causing all the havoc. They enlist a paleontologist and his reporter gal pal to help uncover the mystery menace-and, before long, they encounter the gigantic beast- a giant praying mantis! When the big green guy gets a hankering for warmer climates, and moves south- the whole world is put on alert- and soon the military must find a way to stop the hungry horror from invading America- and eating its citizens! This 1957 film is always a favorite with Sven fans- and it includes a roster of actors that you probably have seen on Me-TV shows! We'll point out a couple for you, plus answer the question of if they ever used a REAL mantis in the film- along with all the usual Sven stuff in the show. "Deadly Mantis" will be on Me-TV tonight at 10 pm eastern, 9 pm central, 10 pm pacific, and please check your local listings for when it'll run in your area. Also, for our Chicago area audience,we'll bring you an encore of "Son of Frankenstein" this morning at 11 am on WCIU- the U ! I just wanted to thank the folks who showed up at Brookfield Zoo last Thursdayfor the AAZK event, and got to take their picture with the prototype for my new coffin, while helping provide funding for the Vital Ground foundation, making sure that there is still habitat land for grizzly bears and wildlife. I sincerely hope that I can return to the event next year! Meanwhile,I'm hoping to get back into production before too long- it may be a while until we get everything together for complete new shows, but when I first come back, we'll be producing some new mail segments for each week's shows. I also wanted to let you know that you will probably be seeing more blogs again- maybe not every day, but more than just the weekly Saturday ones! I'll try to get back into the swing of all the Sven things, as my recovery continues to progress well. Thanks for your support!
