Getting It Right: This IS the Anniversary of My Very First Show!

Posted on June 15, 2016

Mistakes in the monthly newsletter notwithstanding- today, June 16, (if you were reading this yesterday, yes, I jumped the gun- I was confused by our taping schedule, and thought  yesterday was the 16th! So much for "getting it right"...) is indeed the anniversary of my very first horror host show- in 1979, on WFLD in Chicago. The movie was "In the Year 2889"- and I was, at that time "Son of Svengoolie"!

From WFLD, we also were also carried, for a brief time in a very half-baked sort of syndication, on Field Communications stations in Detroit, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Boston. Some of those stations  felt that the show was being "forced" on them by the upper management at Field, and when we'd ask how  the show was doing, would just mumble "okay...I guess". It was only years later that I'd hear from viewers who said- "so- THIS is where you went to after (Boston, Philly, etc)- everybody watched you! We'd have parties in the dorm, etc, etc"... I would have to work overtime to personalize the shows for those specific cities, which all ran DIFFERENT movies in a given week.

Things change- I work for a company that actually appreciates what I do, and has put our show on a network  that now covers over 95% of the country- and, thanks to e-mail and social media, I KNOW what viewers in all those other places think of the show-  and know that we're a national success, for which I am so grateful.

As always, I thank you for your support. I would not still be doing this, if not for you guys- and, of course, our company management that felt this kind of programming was worth keeping on the air!
