Gill Man Trilogy Winds Up Tonight with “Creature Walks Among Us”!

Posted on July 26, 2014

The final part of the Universal Gill Man trilogy completes the 1950s series as we finish "A Gal and a Gill Man" month with the aquatic terror becoming an unwilling  denizen of the land in "The Creature Walks Among Us"!

Who doesn't enjoy headstrong wealthy people? (It was  a rhetorical question- no need to answer...) We meet such a couple in Dr. William Barton and his lovely wife Marcia- Barton has heard tales of the Gill Man having surfaced (see what I did there?) down in the Everglades- and puts together an exploration team to see if the Creature still exists, and , if so- to bring him back alive! He enlists the aid of geneticist Tom Morgan, a couple biologists, and a young guide named Jed to track down the elusive Gill Man. There is already tension aboard the Barton ship- his wife is unhappy with her abusive and somewhat maniacal husband- and  Jed is a little too interested in Marcia.

The pursuit of the Gill Man leads the party to extremely shallow waters- and , when they head out in a small boat, their confrontation with the Creature has many repercussions- including the Gill Man being severely burned- so badly singed that his gills have been destroyed- and he is suffocating! The only answer- to find a way to operate on him, and get him to use the surprisingly- human-like auxiliary lungs that an x-ray shows within his chest. With amazing luck, they pull it off and save the Creature- leaving him confused, and unable to breathe water as he normally had in the past! However, it seems that this is actually part of why Barton wanted to find the Creature- to experiment with a theory that evolution can exist on an individual basis!

As the Gill Man recovers, he naturally starts to find himself attracted to Marcia- and Jed  keeps trying to force himself on her. Once this shipload of unrest finally returns to the U.S., Barton has the Gill Man brought to a rural compound near San Francisco- and we watch the Creature trying to cope with being a land animal, co-existing with other land creatures- including man- and learning that there is great cruelty in this brave new landlocked world.Has the Gill Man evolved- or is he still a danger to those around him- including some degenerate humans?

This 1956 "final chapter" in the trilogy features a cast of familiar faces ( even one that's under the Creature mask whose name we know from the previous films)- we'll introduce you to them and  bring you some additional Creature fun, plus, another segment  from last year's Flashback Weekend convention- a convenient set-up for this year's edition, coming up in just two weeks!
