Going From Black Friday to a Bleak Saturday for Victims of "The Crawling Eye"- Tonight!

Posted on November 30, 2024

Tonight on MeTV- “Black Friday” gives way to a “Black and White Saturday” Sven feature- as we learn about a snowy mountain peak surrounded by a mysterious mist that conceals a deadly menace to mankind! Anyone who dares to climb into it risks certain death- and a major threat looms to local residents when the mist moves downwards towards their town! Inside the mist lies the terror of “The Crawling Eye”!

The Trollenberg, a mountain in Switzerland, seems almost cursed recently, as many of the climbers who came to scale its heights have met a tragic end. We see a train approaching the mountain, and the people onboard include two sisters, Anne and Sarah Pilgrim, who are sharing a train compartment with Alan Brooks, a United Nations operative. As the train gets nearer to the Trollenberg, Anne suddenly faints!

When she revives- even though they are supposed to continue on to Geneva-she insists that she and her sister disembark at the town right at the foot of the mountain! Brooks, who was already headed to the town, arranges for the women to stay at the same hotel as he. It is owned and operated by the town mayor, Herr Klein- who seems very closed-mouthed about the recent demise of climbers. At his hotel, the group meets a young man also staying there, Philip Truscott, who recognizes that the two sisters are actually a famous mind reading act- with Anne supposedly being the one with psychic powers. Truscott also seems unusually interested in what Brooks’ business is in coming to the area.

 by

We find out the reason, when Brooks travels to an observatory high upon the mountain. He has headed there to confer with an old friend, Professor Crevett, about the strange deaths of climbers recently. These two have noticed that they seem to be similar to another situation that they are sadly familiar with-an event a few years ago in the Andes- where locals claimed something was living in a similar mist on a mountain there. The Trollenberg situation may not be a coincidence, and there appears to be a reason for concern.

Two climbers depart from the hotel to head up the mountain to a base camp cabin. After they leave, the two sisters do their mind-reading act to entertain the folks at the hotel-but,in the middle of the performance, Anne suddenly seems to be channeling thoughts about the two men, and once again collapses. Things get more eerie when the men at the base camp cannot be reached.

Brooks and Truscott join a search party to look for them at the cabin. What they find is horrifying- and the horror grows as there are more deaths, while Anne’s visions become more frequent and begin controlling her actions! Even more upsetting- the misty cloud is moving down towards the village- and the townsfolk must all get to safety- if there is even the chance of such a thing! The danger that lurks within the cloud is finally revealed- and may destroy the visitors, the entire population of the village, and possibly the world beyond!

Okay-the title of the film itself is a spoiler but, once again, here on the blog, we are trying to keep from actually showing the full creatures that dwell within the fog. We stress again that, every week, we hear from viewers who haven’t seen some of our films, and do not want to ruin whatever surprise they might discover-although we know that even the movie posters give a lot away. We ask blog commenters NOT to post any photos of the creatures.

On the show, we’ll reveal the original name of this film, talk about its cast, including “F-Troop” star Forrest Tucker and Janet Munro, promote a new beverage you might want to avoid, and present this week’s unavoidable song. Nostaligiaferatoo will also show up to plug a questionable product, and we’ll show some previously unseen fun we had at C2E2 earlier this year, plus an interview with one of our great Sven comics artists, Christopher Jones, and some 45th anniversary greetings from celebrity friends. We will also salute our friend, the fine actor (and fine person) Tony Todd, who passed away recently.

“The Crawling Eye” will appear before your eyes tonight at 8 pm eastern/pacific, 7 central time. This week, not only will fans be live-Tweeting during the show on Twitter/X- but also on the Bluesky app- on both places, you can use the hashtag #svengoolie. Locally our Chicago area viewers will have to switch over to the U Too channel to catch the encore of the beloved “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein” this morning at 11 am. This is due to high school sports on the U.

If you are thinking about ordering some Sven holiday gifts from our MeTV Mall- now is the time to do it, in order to receive them by the time you will need them! Check out the “store” tab here on our website. We are all too aware that some may have to order larger clothing sizes after celebrating Thanksgiving-ahem- us included! Use promo code METVHOLIDAY and get 20% off everything, which includes the 2024 Svengoolie Holiday Sweater, all of our great 45th Anniversary items, and even the Super7 Glow in the Dark Svengoolie action figure. See the site for details, and start your shopping now while supplies of these products last! And remember, NO PERSONAL CHECKS!

Join us tonight on MeTV for an ominous ocular occurrence that you should keep an eye on!

Hello folks 👋 Been AFK with turkey festivities last two weeks and haven't had time to settle in. Sending a belated happy thanksgiving to everyone and that everyone is well-fed and merry with their bad selves. Assuming I spend my b-day at home again, I'll see some of you for 👁️🗻 time. Have a good start of December, everyone 🤗🎊 except if you're the guy who requested that "Pigs is Pigs" cartoon on TIWM. Seek help.

the "On the Next Svengoolie" 3D Pen art I made got sat on. I could have repaired it, but decided to update it. I did not power it on for my photos, but Kerwyns eyes do light up.

You should create a backdrop for Svengoolie for his TV set👍

I found this list of every Sven movie since the 1995 reboot.

https://thetvdb.com/series/svengoolie-on-me-tv/allseasons/official

Some offbeat and interesting entries, such as The Twonky, Devil Girl From Mars, both A&C movies with Karloff, and some bottom scrapers like Robot Monster among the many offerings. There are also several movies not in the expected genre like Return to Mayberry!

Many films that I and others have wanted Sven to show are in the list, like Logan's Run. And (I assume) a heavily edited version of From Beyond.

I don't see The 5000 Fingers of Dr T, which Sven counts as the worst film ever on his show, probably was shown before 1995. I don't know why he hates that film. I don't think it's a great one, but anything with Hans Conreid and production values by Dr Seuss ain't all bad.
PARANORMA DrSerizawa 6 hours ago
Um, okay. Hard to understand why he dislikes DrT so intensely yet apparently has nothing (much?) Against "The Twonky" -- which I quite enjoy. I mean they're both Conreid, from the same period, and deeply strange, so...
Drang DrSerizawa 5 hours ago
The impression I got was that DrT was simply not received well by the audience.
Maybe he feels he doesn't need the competition from a musical!
Svengoolie ran Doctor T a few years ago. He was okay with it but fan reaction was not good

Personally, I enjoy the movie.

Had a great day today at Disneyland. I did Peter Pan ride , pirates of the Caribbean, haunted mansion holiday, Winnie the Pooh ride,Tianas bayou adventure and it’s a small world holiday. I got one of their famous hand made candy canes for the for the second year in a row. I rode Tiana’s bayou adventure and got in boarding group 34 and got called back at about 1120 am. I liked the ride. It was cute and my first time going on it.had hungry bear for lunch.

Whilst listing possibilities, how about 1944's "Return of the Ape Man"? Lugosi! Carradine! Zucco-ish! And except for a couple of brief moments for "Moonlight Sonata", a rousing OTT score, besides. 🙈🙉🙊

Hey Sven gang, remember several years ago people were saying Happy Christmas as a holiday greeting? I guess it didn't take. What about Merry Thanksgiving, Merry Halloween, Merry Fourth of July and Merry Birthday?
CrazyK 1MikeM 8 hours ago
Merry Blogging & Merry Christmas to you MikeM! 👍😂

And another suggestion for Sven https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?&q=1000+years+from+now+movie&&mid=03D83C21B840A5C50B0103D83C21B840A5C50B01&&FORM=VRDGAR
What’s the movie? I’m too lazy to copy and paste paragraphs of Greek

You can see the title (1000 YEARS FROM NOW) in the URL if you squint just right.
Hilarious cringe (but hey, William Schallert!), it could work. Perhaps as a double with 1960's "Beyond the Time Barrier"...?

He sure has a big body of work. I always liked his pleasant demeanour ( sorry my Canadian auto-correct) and soft spokeness. When he speaks he commands attention .

IKR, a real working actor. He would pretty much take whatever job presented itself -- film, TV, v/o, a principal, recurring, or one-off. And never came across like he was phoning it in.

I go to a weekly film series. Tre current series is Hollywood movies about Hollywood. Yesterday we saw and reviewed the 1975 Day Of The Locust. Our beloved William Castle had a small part as a movie director.
Of course the discussion of the movie digressed and we talked about the Tingler and Caste’s antics.
PARANORMA CountCurt 14 hours ago
So cool that even with a terrific film like that, after years, there can still be new things to appreciate. 🎬

Good afternoon Norma. Yes you are right. There are always new reflections and insights. Sven is good in this area.
Natalie Shaefer of Gilligan’s Island fame is also in the movie. She plays the part of a madame running a high end house of prostitution. Obviously things got tough after she was rescued from Gilligan’s Island. Lol

That was an *amazing* cast, though hard to get past Sutherland as 'Homer Simpson'... And even if one doesn't count Atherton (the Nick Caraway character, in a way) going over the edge at the end, IMO something of a horror movie. The riot/surrealism is definite scary stuff.

Bugs Bunny and the racing dogs!😂

Hmmm, all the characters in the Malibu Saloon have very familiar voices😁. Definite Elmer Fudd in there somewhere.

And was the bad guy's hallucination of Nell as "the face on the barroom floor" meant to be Bette Davis?

Mediocre 1960s Tom and Jerry.

Tom should buy Acme, those Ajax knock-offs just don't perform...

I agree, Drang! 😂
ElizabethBoop Drang 13 hours ago
Since it was one of Chuck Jones T&Js, maybe a little logo saying something like "Ajax, a wholly owned subsidiary of Acme Inc."

I’m still around, like about eight hours ago, re: Matchbox. Because of seasonal things I’m trying to take care of—like getting house ready to bring in the potted trees and cactuses before a freeze—I’ve been posting infrequently. We have yet to get some alternate way to watch Svengoolie, so commenting on the current Svenmovie has been a little less compelling, altho’ I enjoy reading all you all’s comments. I also tend to time shift a bit while I’m online, so I don’t necessarily respond to the freshest comments.
