Halloween Detox

Posted on November 4, 2012

I am definitely going through withdrawal- after a month when I usually had a bunch of appearances to do,I actually have some time to myself this weekend! It feels so different to NOT suit up in my Sven uniform- and to spend my time tying up all the loose ends that I didn't get to during the Halloween season, like changing outdoor lights, organizing books and papers, and doing some general clean-up (of belongings, not myself, thank you-I've been having myself dry-cleaned on a regular basis...actually, I just brought my tux jacket to the cleaners to take out the wrinkles from various zombie hugs...) I definitely am in Halloween detox, which, if anything, will help my hand recover from the slight writer's cramp that resulted from signing hundreds of autographs (but, it's a malady I gladly suffer! It's an honor to have you guys ask for my signature!) Thanks for all the nice comments regarding our "Halloween Horror of the Day" feature during the past month.I'm happy that you guys enjoyed it. For those already asking if it will return- come on! It's about a YEAR until Halloween season again!Seriously, I don't know-maybe we'll do something different...and, no, I'm not going to do a "Turkey of the Day" spotlighting a really bad movie every day of November until Thanksgiving! Thanks also for the comments from those of you who tuned in for my visit with Melissa and Jeanne on "You and Me This Morning" on Halloween morning- I spent about an hour with the ladies, and they had me join them for a few different fun features, along with an interview. You can see the interview on the "You and Me" page at the WCIU.com site- I believe it is posted among the shows' videos there. Thanks also to Rob Feder for his kind article on the TimeOut Chicago site about the new Sven coffin!I'm happy that he helped spotlight the talented crew at Acme Design who are making it a reality. Wow- we are getting quite a few photos of people who dressed up as me for Halloween! I'll try to fit a few into an upcoming mail segment- but, I may have to do an entire piece with a bunch of the Sven look-a-likes!We'll have to see if we can fit that into a future show... Those of you who get our monthly newsletter already know about this- but- for everybody else- we will be having an upcoming appearance that will coincide with a Monday night Bears game being on WCIU again- at one of our favorite places- White Castle! Be watching for full information soon! You may have seen a picture of our friend Mark Hamill on the show last night-I got an e-mail from Mark, and I'm very proud to say that he wore his Sven t-shirt to answer the door for trick-or-treaters on Halloween! He said that he made sure he exposed it to bright light for about twenty minutes before handing out treats, so the "glow-in-the-dark" effect would astound and delight the nieghborhood kids! (How cool would it be to ring a doorbell and have Mark Hamill open it?!) I can just imagine a trick-or-treater sampling the candy he's handed and saying "it's Chewy!"- and Mark looking around, asking "Where?" (sorry- a little wookie wisecrack there...) In related news,George Lucas, who helped make Mark famous in "Star Wars", is donating the money he got for selling his Lucasfilms Ltd. to Disney- all 4.05 billion- to an unnamed foundation that focuses on education! He has said he wants to help improve education- something he has always had a commitment to, and supported. What an amazing gesture from a man who has done amazing things throughout his career. Okay- back to that loose-end-tying...now, what was that about setting clocks back? Set them back where?
