How do They KNow Who’s on First? “Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man” Tonight!

Posted on January 17, 2015

Before next week's all-new program- we bring back a Bud and Lou meeting with yet another horror figure...sort of. He ain't the original, but he's ANOTHER one- invisible man, that is- as "Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man" tonight on MeTV!

The bumbling duo graduates from a detective school ( ...how? Did they cheat on the test?) and it looks like their first professional case will be at the request of Tommy Nelson. This is no easy deal- Tommy is a pro boxer who was sent to prison for killing his manager- but has escaped, and now wants to visit his fiancee Helen- whose uncle has been working on a secret formula for invisibility, based on the one the original Invisible Man utilized. Tommy wants to be injected  and use this personal cloaking device to find out who really killed his manager, especially since it happened right after Tommy refused to throw a fight. The uncle refuses, saying he hasn't gotten it to the point where it will avoid the madness that afflicted the original invisible one. Things get tense as the police arrive at the home, and, before they can find him- Tommy decides to inject himself as the only way of escaping. He's invisible just in time- but Lou sees him vanish!

There's some dissent between Bud and Lou, since Bud is more than willing to turn Tommy in for a reward, while Lou wants to help him find the truth- but they are eventually on the same page, and head for the gym where answers might be found. Using Tommy's boxing skills via his invisibility, Lou becomes an up and coming boxer- supposedly being wooed by a local gangster's girl-while it certainly becomes apparent who had it in for Tommy's manager. Unfortunately, the ones behind the murder have deadly plans for Bud and Lou- and the madness that comes with invisibility once again rears its unseen but ugly head.

There's plenty of invisible shtick in this film, and most of it is pulled off pretty well. We get some familiar faces, too- Sheldon Leonard and William Frawley, to mention a couple.  Watch for some reused footage from "Invisible Man Returns" which we ran recently! We'll give you some background on the cast and production- and  make some typical Sven fun visible.

"Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man" appears on MeTV tonight at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 pm central, and , for the time in your area- please check your local listings. In Chicago, viewers get a second look at the classic  "Island of Lost Souls" at 11 am on WCIU!

If I may put in a quick plug- I'm really enjoying the shows on our "Spies Who Love ME" block on Sunday nights- especially "Man from UNCLE" and my all-time favorite "Get Smart"! Please check it out!

And- I hope, even though you won't see one of our title characters, that you WILL be seeing me tonight!
