Isn’t It A Little Warm for a Fur Coat, Lady? “She-Wolf of London”- Tonight!

Posted on June 4, 2016

Not sure why this was delayed- I got the message "schedule missed".Let's try again-

It's equal rights for women tonight- we had the "Werewolf of London"- so, it's only fair to have jolly olde England terrorized by the female of the species- as a frightened woman feels that she has become the "She-Wolf of London"!

Things seem pretty cheery and bright for young Phyllis- she is betrothed to Barry, a handsome young lawyer, and stands to inherit the vast Allenby fortune (are all movie fortunes "vast'?). Phyllis lives in the Allenby Manor with her Aunt Martha and cousin Carol, served faithfully by their maid Hannah. It becomes an issue that the ladies are residing without the protection of a male in the house ( so much for the equality mentioned earlier!) when word comes that a rash of brutal murders have been committed nearby. It appears that the victims have had their throats torn out in a vicious manner- and some of the local police seem to think that it's a werewolf problem!

Phyllis becomes very worried that the murders may be connected to the "curse of the Allenbys"- a familial  legend of deadly transformation. After finding certain clues that she attributes to her affliction, Phyllis fears for her dear Barry's safety- and begins to avoid him! Barry fights to maintain his relationship and Phyllis' sanity- as more murders occur and the suspect is clearly- a woman!

This 1946 Universal chiller  stars someone we see every week during "Super Sci-Fi Saturday Night"- June Lockhart, forgoing the "futuristic" universe of "Lost in Space" for early 20th century London. We'll  introduce various cast members, plus- hear a pitch for a British TV show combining  werewolfery and sci fi, find out if June's connections to "Lassie" could be a secondary curse, relive the very first time we learned that the grinning skull on the front of my coffin could TALK- and- during the Sven segments- watch for a cameo of MST3K proportions when a couple of Mads appear!

"She-Wolf of London" is on the prowl on your MeTV station tonight at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 central, or check local listings or www.metv.com for info for your area. Chicago gets another chance to watch "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" on our sister station, WCIU, the U, at 11 am.

Our web administrator would like me to again state to our blog commenters- PLEASE- NO SPOILERS- especially regarding an important plot point about this film.

I'd like to thank commenter Greg V for pointing out  a major typo in the Svengoolie June 2016 newsletter- in information regarding  my anniversary as Sven- when I meant to say "June"- I had written "July"! Missed it by that much...

If you live in the Chicago area, don't forget that, next Saturday, I will return to one of our favorite events- the Hardcore Hearse show at the Brauerhouse in Lombard, IL. You'll find the information here on our site, under "appearances".

Meanwhile, join us  for lycanthropic ladies' night tonight on MeTV!
