Just Passing Though- Solid Objects?! It Can Only Be the "4D Man"- on MeTV Tonight!

Posted on March 14, 2020

Tonight on MeTV- our show is brought to you by the letter “D”- as a scientist with some sibling rivalry issues tampers with his brother’s amazing discovery and gains the ability to not only pass through solid objects –but also to cause death with a mere touch- when he becomes the “4-D Man”!

We begin by watching a devoted young scientist  named Tony Nelson ( no, not “I Dream of Jeannie”s  master) –who makes a brilliant discovery- but then makes a careless mistake in his university lab, resulting in the whole building being burnt down! The old Frankenstein Monster mantra- “fire bad” – proves true, as Tony is fired from the university. His only hope to perfect his discovery is to meet up with his fellow scientist brother Scott- and seek his aid in allowing him to continue his work.

Brother Scott is facing obstacles of his own- including being under the employment of an egotistical employer who takes credit for everything his workers turn out. Even the latest discovery Scott and his team have perfected - a metal so dense, nothing can penetrate it- is promoted by boss man Carson as HIS latest discovery- and he even goes so far as to name  it after himself- Car-gonite!

When Tony arrives to meet with Scott, he is also introduced to Scott’s comely co-worker Linda, the object of Scott’s affection. The brothers, as happens with some siblings, bicker and disagree , but eventually, Tony agrees to take a job with the company. Tony is shown to his work station  by an untrustworthy co-worker named Parker, who feels he personally deserves a higher position in the company, but lacks the talent to achieve it- and will do anything, ethical or not, to achieve his goal.

Tony finally finds it necessary to reveal the astounding accomplishment he’s been working on to Scott and Linda. He shows them an uncanny example- the result of an amplifier he has created that allows one solid object to pass through another! Another unexpected achievement is in the works- when Linda shares the mutual affection Tony is feeling for her. Sadly, Scott discovers that these two are now a coo-some twosome, without them knowing he has stumbled upon their romance. Scott, perhaps driven by jealousy, breaks into Tony’s work locker, removes his experimental equipment, and powers it up, only to accidentally duplicate his brother’s feat of passing one solid object through another – barely escaping a tragic result!

The devious Parker happens by the work space, and spots some of Tony’s papers. He realizes this may be his chance to impress the boss, and swipes them. He then tries to pass them off as his own work to glory-hound boss Carson, in hopes of finally getting his own lab. In the meantime,  Scott must reveal to Tony that he has made the amplifier work successfully- but then discovers that it now allows HIM to pass through a solid plate of metal. More stunning is the fact that the amplifier actually isn’t even on when Scott performs the act! Somehow his exposure to the amplifier’s wavelength has given his human flesh the power to go “4-D”!

Scott discovers that his entire body can now pass through objects at will- but going into the 4D state takes a physical toll on him. He accidentally discovers a way to restore himself- but at a terrible cost. He decides to use his power to commit a crime- and while it leaves the police baffled, brother Tony recognizes the signs from all the evidence. He not only knows how the crime was committed- but also by who! Scott continues to use his new 4-D power for whatever he wants- including revenge- challenging Tony, Linda, and the authorities to face the task of trying to stop a man who is basically unstoppable- and deadly!

This 1959 color feature, starring James Congdon, also boasts a cast we’ll talk about, featuring Robert Lansing, Robert Strauss, and a very young and beautiful Lee Meriwether, not to mention an even younger actress who would reach great fame in movies and TV ( attention, blog commenters-please heed the “not to mention’ until after the show airs!) . The film has an unusual  jazz soundtrack similar to that of the “Peter Gunn” show- which, at times, seems to over-power the presentation. We’ll “go through” the usual Sven shtick, including a merchandise idea that seems fairly obvious!

“4-D Man” comes through your TV screen tonight at 8 pm eastern/pacific, 7 central, and, if you are unsure of the time and channel where you are- just check your local listings or at www.metv.com. Our show continues to trend high nationally among the topics on Twitter during the show, thanks to the fans live-Tweeting using the hashtag #svengoolie - and MeTV invites you to join in! Chicago area viewers get a second chance to experience the “Cry of the Werewolf” on the U at the special earlier time- 9 am- due to high school sports.

You still have a little over two weeks to get your vote is for the Rondo Awards for horror and science fiction in various media. I am  a double nominee this year- both as favorite horror host, in the category that also includes many of my worthy brethren( and sistern)  who host horror shows – and also among the nominations for top event of 2019 , with the city of Chicago’s celebration of my 40th anniversary. As always, make your votes for whoever or whatever your true favorites are- even if I am not among them. The nice thing about the Rondos is that you can vote in as few or as many categories as you wish. You can cut and paste from the ballot to show your choices, but in order for your vote to count- you must follow all the rules, including giving your name and e-mail address, and voting ONLY ONCE. You must do this, or your vote will not count. You’ll find the ballot and all voting information at www.rondoaward.com

On a personal note- please accept my thanks to everyone who offered birthday greetings, whether here, by mail, or on social media. It means so much to me. Your support and friendship is the best gift of all.

Enjoy our gift to you tonight on MeTV!

Anyone see the movie Andromeda Strain? It would be a great Svengoolie movie AND it oddly reflects what’s happening today.
MadameYes Klaatu 57 months ago
That is one of my favorite movies! The book is a riveting read.

So Dale, I watched Cry of the Banshee yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it! I especially got a kick out of the opening credits. I thought they looked awfully Python like, and sure enough, they were done by Terry Gilliam!
Jack FARMGAL56 57 months ago
Far out!
Jack FARMGAL56 57 months ago
OMG! Gilliam also did the opening credits (and other animation) for _The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine_! I tried to imitate his illustration style when I was a kid.Writers for TMFCM included comedy giants Spike Milligan--that makes sense--Larry Gelbart, and Barry Levinson.

It is a pretty sturdy horror film, Farmgal. Playing the head witch was veteran actress Elisabeth Bergner, who, in the 1930's, was being groomed as a new Garbo. Suffice, to say, she didn't quite reach those heights. Oh, I liked the opening credits, too!

Theses are trying times, but looking forward to Svengoolie super sci-fi Saturday night programming. I am wishing all here safe harbor inside if need be.

You and me both, Geo. I am so ready for sci fi Sat night.

It will be interesting to see how Illinois’s “Stay at Home Order”, which “is not a lockdown”, will affect future “Svengoolie episodes. I know they do film a lot of content a good deal ahead of time. Still we might see a few “from the vault” episodes.
scottieO TheKodakKid 57 months ago
I would be happy with that for as long as it takes to keep Sven and crew and everyone at MeTV safe.

On Adam-12 they just said their short staffed because of the flu.

It wasn't "blue flu," was it?

The Batmobile from the TV series was designed and built by the late great George Barris the king of the custom hotrods and Classic cars of the 50s and 60s. He used a custom idea car from Detroit and worked it into the Batmobile

As NoPersonalChicks said earlier The Monkees rescheduled dates for their 2020 tour. Well, to make people happy (and to promote their new live album!) The Monkees video of a live performance. Funny, they post the song The Door Into Summer on the first day of Spring! PEACE AND LOVE!

Apparently the social distancing directive is not taking hold. Our island is full of heavy traffic and the beaches are crowded. However, the city councils of Carolina and Kure Beach have decided to close down all public parking lots and beach access lots starting tonight.
The next alternative is to close down the bridge to all non-residents but that takes a lot more work and strain on our police departments. They are refraining from that for now.
Even more of a bummer is i'll have to wear a dirty tux for tomorrow nights Svengoolie premier movie because the dry cleaners are closed.

Beaches now closing as of 8 am Sat morning. That should quiet things down.

I realize that bats were responsible for the first appearance of the coronavirus, but please don't blame this guy.
Jack daleuhlmann 57 months ago
Bats seem to be the natural reservoir population for _this_ strain of coronavirus. Bats--and birds--and ideal hosts for these viruses because they're warm-blooded and can fly.
scottieO Jack 57 months ago
"Let the pigeons loose."
Catbat Jack 57 months ago
Sure just blame everything on the bats
Jack Catbat 57 months ago
Hey, I wasn't blaming anything on bats. They're among my favorite mammals. The reason bats are excellent hosts for viruses is pretty interesting of its own. Because of the metabolic and cellular stresses of flight by their own muscle power, bats' tissues have adapted in such a way that they're largely immune to (these) viruses--if I remember it right. If you want, I can chase down references to an article on the subject.

Unfortunately, our leather- winged friends aren't immune to fungal infections, and white nose syndrome has been recorded on Texas bats recently. Who's gonna pick up the slack if the bees get sick?!?!

Good Svengoolie Saturday Eve Afternoon All!
Just got home from what passes for work these days.
We got 10 tons of limestone spead in our drive way this morning, we have a drive way? Good bye mud! Still some raking to do but I'm thrilled! Now I can wash my Jeep!
While I was at Walmart yesterday I spotted this in the Claw game. I immediately thought of you MADave.

Well, the upside is we re-organized all our kitchen cupboards. Got rid of some stuff with pull dates as much as five years ago. Still bracing to do the refrigerator (I think there's still some dip in there from the Super Bowl). Okay, questionable relevance -- so is there a horror movie about a menace brewing in the back of the fridge? "IT CAME FROM THE CRISPER DRAWER"??

I don't know about regular marshmallows, but Peeps are practically immortal. In high school--late 70s--we found some unwrapped that had been on a shelf behind some books for three years. This was known because some of us were in the same classroom when they originally went missing. They were still good. Peeps™ and Twinkies™--Food for the Apocalypse.

In addition to the Boris Karloff chiller ISLE OF THE DEAD, which I mentioned last week, another appropriate horror movie to show right now would be the 1964 Roger Corman adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death," starring Vincent Price and Hazel Court.
Klaatu daleuhlmann 57 months ago
