Kong Meets the Ape of Steel?! It’s the Super “King Kong Escapes”- Tonight!

Posted on June 15, 2013

With this the premiere weekend for the "Man of Steel"- as well as the hockey finals with "cold steel on ice"- it's only appropriate that the brand new Sven show  tonight features an evil Ape of Steel, facing off against the most famous giant simian in filmdom- who pulls a Houdini in "King Kong Escapes"!

Just imagine a Godzilla flick with 'Zilla in an ape suit- and you get the feel of this movie! An evil doctor (thus, we run this in our "The Doctor is In-SANE!" MONTH) - with the somewhat familiar sounding moniker of "Dr. Hu" (it's easier to differentiate in print)- has discovered the most powerful radioactive element  ever- and has stolen the plans of a U.N. scientist to build a gigantic robotic version of the legendary King Kong to dig it up, at the request of the government of a sexy secret agent lady. When the radiation messes up the robot's power- it appears only the real thing will do- and Dr. Hu sets out to capture and control the mighty Kong!

Meanwhile, our  U.N. pal and his coworkers have some submarine trouble (no, not a bad sandwich from Subway) and happen to visit the island of Kong (which is called "Mondo Island" in this film- not the traditional "Skull Island" that Kong calls home). A pretty blonde nurse seems to be Kong's latest crush-and he battles prehistoric monsters  to protect her- and even seems to listen to and follow her requests!

Soon- the evil Hu works to control Kong's power to attain his prized element- but, when plans go awry- he decides  the blonde nurse might be the way to keep the big ape on the right track to do his evil bidding. Hairy hypnosis and the robo-Kong all lead to a final battle in Tokyo!

This unusual film from 1967 features some cast members with unexpected connections (hopefully, you'll watch and be surprised, providing some blog reader doesn't decide to ruin the fun by commenting before the show airs). This, along with a surprising co-production company, will all be explained during our broadcast. We will be cutting back on some of our segment times  in order to fit as much of the movie as possible into the show- since it's got a running time that actually exceeds the amount of time, without commercials, that we have  for the show! Also in the show, we'll feature some pictures from Chicago's C2E2 convention that we attended, and show you some of the fans and celebrities that we encountered!

Yes, this is a brand new show- I am always amazed at the comments I get, obviously from people who have not bothered to read my blog posts, nor my posts on Facebook regarding WHY we have reruns. I appreciate that you- yes, YOU!- reading this now check in here for insight into the show- and to the knowledgeable fans who add more information after seeing what stuff I mention on air.

"King Kong Escapes" runs tonight on the Me-TV network- now heading into 150 markets, and 90% of the country- tonight at 10 pm eastern and pacific (except in Hawaii, where, for some reason, Universal will not let us air the movie- you guys get a vintage Sven show)- and 9 pm central time- please check your local listings to find out what time we're on where you will be watching.

Lately, we've heard from a few places that we are being pre-empted- sometimes by seasonal sports programming, sometimes by infomercials, etc. Please know WE do not control this from our home base in Chicago. You need to call or contact the  local station in your area, and let THEM know that you prefer to see Svengoolie during that time slot! It's your feedback that could help change things for you!

If you go to the WWE "payback" event this weekend- make sure to tell the King Jerry Lawler that his pal Sven says hello!

Next weekend, in Elk Grove Village , IL, I'll be at the Little Boots Rodeo to visit with you- check our appearances tab here on our site for info. Also, now, you can sign up specifically every month to try and win a Sven signed retired  rubber chicken- just look for the entry form! By entering every month, and not having the names chosen strictly from the huge pool of newsletter subscribers, you have better odds of winning! Just remember to subscribe once every month!

One final note- if you're a hockey fan, watching the playoff finals-whether at home or at a gathering- PLEASE switch to our show after the game concludes- let's hope we don't have another triple overtime tonight, or you'll be coming in for "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea"!

Wow- this is the longest blog we've had since before last Halloween!...I MUST be feeling better!
