Look-It’s Already Tuesday!

Let us again sing the praises of the short work week! Labor Day was pleasant, though a bit humid...but a nice change from the couple mostly-gray rainy days we had.And now- just four days and it'll be a weekend again!Let's have a few short blurbs to start the short week... I saw a t-shirt that made me laugh- it had a picture of Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford, with the words "The Original Pawn Star" (a reference to the popular History Channel Show). While it made me laugh, correct me if I'm wrong- I don't think Fred was in the pawn business- wasn't he strictly a junk man? Regardless, I liked the shirt. The WWE was in town yesterday, to do their three hour "Monday Night Raw" show live from the AllState Arena (which I still refer to as the Rosemont Horizon a lot- old habits are hard to break- like the people who still call me "SON OF Svengoolie"...). It's always nice to have some of our wrestling friends in town, though, with their busy schedule of events, they are usually in and out so fast I don't get to see them, except on their show. Otherwise, you know I'd be roping them in to cameo roles on OUR show... I got some interesting comments on the blog yesterday regarding work.Among the most touching were the words from people who had been out of work for a while, and now have new jobs-and have a new perspective on work. Another facet of work that was brought to mind was-the rare experiences of people who never have been fired, and how it feels when they, either voluntarily or involuntarily have to look for a new job.One of the most amazing happened on a personal level, when someone I know applied for a job-and didn't get it. I was a little confused by her reaction to that- I mean, we've all applied for a job, done the interview, and not gotten the job- until she explained to me that she had NEVER had that happen- she found her first job while still in school, moved on to other jobs, leaving them and going on to another by her own decision. Now, after having been out of the work force for a while-for the first time in her life- she had been rejected. I realized how much of a shock that was to her, after a couple decades of always having- and getting- a job. Did you get your September Svengoolie newsletter? You should have- if you're a subscriber. If not, you can easily subscribe to it right here on our site-it doesn't cost anything- and you'll be on the list to get the next one- which happens to be the October edition, with plenty of news about Halloween season public appearances, and more.If you want a complete listing of the Sven movies for the full month- that's the way to get it! Remember me talking about the "Larry the Cable Guy" snack chips a while back? I believe my joke was something about having a slogan like "Does this taste funny?" I happened to go into one of those stores that sells merchandise that they buy in lots-usually stuff that's being phased out or discontinued by other stores or distributors- and there was no shortage of "Larry the Cable Guy"food products- from cornbread mixes to "hamburger helper" type dinners. I did read somewhere that one line of those stores is actually the distributor of his products, so,perhaps it isn't a failed enterprise. Maybe we can also look forward to "Jim Belushi Jellied Eel Treats" or "CarrotTop Carrot Cake Mix"...or (ahem) "Kerwyn Krispy (and a little too Chewy) Chicken Nuggets"...
