More Radio-Active Sven!…Plus- J.R. Spins Great Tales-and- Coming Soon- a Royal Visit!

Posted on June 3, 2014

It looks like I'll be burning the late night oil for another WGN radio (720 AM) visit- it'll be at 2:15 am on Wednesday night, going into Thursday morning, when my old friend Nick Digilio has asked me to talk with him regarding the official Svengoolie/Rich Koz Day in Illinois! I know that is pretty late for all of us, but I'm hoping that he'll post a podcast on the wgnradio.com site , as his daytime coworkers Bill and Wendy did!

Also, here's a quick "heads up" for this weekend's Me-TV Sven show- not only is it a movie we've never shown before- but- the program will includes a special visit from the C2E2 comics and entertainment convention- featuring my friend, the WWE Hall of Famer, wrestling icon, and artist Jerry "the King" Lawler! He was just in town for this past  Sunday's WWE pay-per-view event emanating from the All State Arena, and  we're happy to finally get the chance to have him show up on the Sven show!

His former wrestling play-by-play partner, "Good Ol' J.R." Jim Ross was also in town this past weekend, to present his "Ringside" show at the House of Blues, and I was fortunate to be able to attend. Being inside that venue was a kind of shock for me- I should explain, the building that the HOB is in was originally where the WFLD- channel 32- studios were located when both Jerry G. Bishop and I hosted horror movies on that channel! I remarked to the friends who were with me- I think the area where we were seated was either part of the larger main TV studio or part of the master control room in the old days!

Regardless, it was a lot of fun to hear J.R. talk wrestling- his long history in the business, his amazing insights, and tales of the various personalities  he's worked with (and for) made for an highly entertaining experience. He is a very honest, down-to-earth guy, who calls 'em like he sees 'em- and his sincerity and appreciation for the business, and his fans came across strongly. He had a couple special guests- Tommy Dreamer of ECW fame, and- what a surprise!- our dear friend Lisa Marie Varon, whose Squared Circle restaurant got a visit from J.R. later that evening (no, he didn't opt for the Svengoolie burger- he went for the tasty food items that utilize his delicious barbeque sauce, like the Slobberknocker pizza!) Should Mr. Ross ever schedule a "rematch" and return to present another show, I'd definitely grab a ticket if I were you! My only regret was not getting the chance to meet him personally- maybe sometime in the future.

One more thing for now- it looks like we will have a major announcement about a very special Sven live event coming up later this summer- the news should break soon- so come back and check for updates-also check the updates under the "appearances" tab on this site!
