Never Smile at a Reptile: “Cult of the Cobra” Tonight!

Posted on June 27, 2015

Tonight on MeTV, a group of servicemen out for some thrills get more than they bargained for- when a snake-worshiping sect doesn't take to ceremony-crashers lightly; and the boys return home to find their civilian lives shortened by the "Cult of the Cobra"!

In this film, it's time for our gallant guys to head home now that World War II is over- after a little sightseeing, that is. Somehow, these men in uniform decide it'd be a real hoot to sneak into a secret ceremony being conducted by Lamians- worshipers of snakes, who believe humans can transform into the reptiles- at their hidden temple. They make it pretty far, until one of these tourists is stupid enough to decide to take a flash photograph- alerting the Lamians that infidel intruders are amongst them! As the boys battle their way out, one of the high priests ( an actor you will recognize for his history of C.O.N.T.R.O.L.) puts a curse on them- that the Cobra Goddess will kill them off, one by one!

The boys escape- but one of them appears to have been bitten by a snake! ( Hmm- didn't they just see a woman standing over him? ) While his recovery seems on track- something eerie happens- and his remaining cohorts ship out for home, stunned.  Once home, romantic rivalry between a couple of the guys - Tom and Paul- finally comes to a conclusion- and Tom, the odd man out, is pretty bummed- until he hears a scream from a neighboring apartment- and heads to the rescue- discovering his new neighbor is a beautiful woman, who says  she was startled by an intruder, who is no longer in evidence.

Tom sets his sights on Lisa, his new neighbor, and it seems things might be looking brighter- until more of his ex-serviceman pals start dying! Has the snake goddess made her way to the States- to fulfill the high priest's prophesy?

Starring as the mysterious Lisa is Faith Domergue, who has been seen on our program in the past- and, this is one of those movies where you almost need a scorecard to keep track of all the actors who appear in various MeTV classic shows- and we'll point out a bunch of them for you (maybe we'll leave a few for you to make the connections with yourself!) This selection from the Sven "vintage vault" has a lot to entertain you- so, take off your snakeskin sneakers and settle in for cold-blooded chills!

1955's "Cult of the Cobra" slithers onto MeTV tonight at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 pm central, and, if you're unsure of when we run in your area, please consult your local listings. For our Chicago audience, this morning on our sister station, the U, WCIU,you can catch up on a different deadly female- "Dracula's Daughter"- at 11 am!

Just a brief mention, since I've gotten a few inquiries- no, I'm sorry, this weekend, I will NOT be appearing at the 2015  Elk Grove Village "Little Boots Rodeo" (and, no, it's not because they decided to "give me the boot"...)

Join us tonight for the scaly scares of the "Cult of the Cobra"! And keep that snakebite venom antidote handy...
