Next Up in Godzilla Month: “Godzilla VS Mothra” Tonight!

This Saturday night on MeTV- our Godzilla month continues with the King of the Monsters facing off against the flying fury of another legendary giant creature- as a mysterious egg brings about  the cataclysmic confrontation  of "Godzilla VS Mothra"!

In this 1964 entry to the Godzilla series, a massive typhoon brings about a lot of destruction- and - a gigantic egg floating just off shore from a Japanese beach. A reporter and his photographer  also discover a strange radioactive object. When a scientific researcher is trying to discover the origin of the egg, Kumayama, a slimy entrepreneur, shows up on the scene, claiming he has purchased  legal rights to the egg from the local villagers - and his company , Happy Enterprises, plans to turn it into a tourist attraction!

When scientist Prof. Miura and the newspaper pair spot Kumayama going to meet someone at a hotel, they discover that he is in league with Torhata- who is the real head of Happy Enterprises. However, another  group claiming ownership of the egg appears- the tiny twin fairies from Mothra's island! Known as the Shobijin, they warn that the hatching of the egg will bring great destruction to Japan- and plead for the egg to be given back. They ask the reporters to help them convince the devious Happy Enterprises duo to allow its return to their island. When the cause seems lost, they depart for their home.

In an effort to find out the source of the radioactive item they discovered, our friends go back to the beach- and are shocked to find that the source is  something else that was displaced by the typhoon- a rather large "something else"- Godzilla! The incredible creature begins another unstoppable rampage, and the investigative team decides that a trip to Mothra's island is necessary- to try and convince the islanders to send Mothra to battle Godzilla. They meet resistance- since they couldn't help retrieve the giant egg- and because Mothra, now of advanced age, may not be strong enough to best Godzilla. The sincerity of the Japanese visitors convinces  the disciples of the giant moth  to agree to help them defeat Godzilla- and the fight is on!

This full color Godzilla adventure , also known as  "Mothra VS Godzilla" and "Godzilla VS the Thing" still portrays Godzilla as a threat to mankind. The tiny Shobijin fairies, actually portrayed by a singing duo known as The Peanuts, carry over from the original  1961 "Mothra"  film. We'll talk about this film's history, go through the cast list, and, among the Sven shtick, bring back an "interview" with the twin fairies who are now very much modern women!

In a special radio appearance this afternoon, Sven’s alter ego Rich Koz will be a guest on the “Those Were the Days” radio program, a weekly salute to the golden days of radio,heard on WDCB- FM. Host Steve Darnall has proclaimed February, the birth month of Jack Benny, as  “Jack Benny Month”- with lots of Benny shows all month long (most likely because Godzilla did very little radio)- and will chat with  Rich about his admiration for and inspiration from the classic comedian.
